Not sure he ever had any to lose, that said he is the inventor of the micro-retirement where he takes a week off work a couple of times a year to relax with his family in a different place than he lives
They used to be good but now seem to being saying things (or acting like hyper kids) just to get clips for social media
Just want to add to this, and say that Mo Salah should not be untouchable. Let’s get the obvious caveats out of the way - brilliant player, so many goals and assists, has saved our bacon more times than we can remember.
But moving forward, with all the attacking talent we are assembling, Mo should not be untouchable, whether it is playing 60 mins and not 90, or even, dare we say it, starting a game or two on the bench.
He’s such a pro that he would be wounded and next game would probably score a brace, which is as it should be. Once Isak is in and up to speed, I could see a midfield diamond with Wirtz at the tip behind Isak and Ekitike offering the best balance between defence and attack.
It will be something to watch, and I expect Slot to handle it well, but there will be a few A1 players who necessarily have to take one for the team from time to time, such is the talent we now have. Mo Salah should not be untouchable in that.
He’s not really had much of a life then
I think the discussion around the goal was really good.
Rooney questioned the keeper’s footwork as he didnt understand why he moved the way he did, Hart then broke down the sequence down step by step to show the keeper did everything right and demonstrating just how fantastic a strike it was by Dom.
There’s nothing Raya could have done. Only Alisson with his stronger wrists would have had a chance of keeping that strike out.
Yeah I said elsewhere I felt Hart was very good on that.
I haven’t seen Hart do much analysis, but even if he’s only mediocre the fact he is a goalie giving their perspective addresses a historical gap because the overwhelming majority of outfield players have absolutely no idea what a goalie is trying to do in a lot of situations. You see them get criticized for things like reaching with their wrong hand or “getting beaten on the near post” without any understanding of what they have coached to do as best practice.
Not sure if this link will work for you.
Ones they’ve had on before are generally bad but I felt this was good analysis from a goalie, I do think the Raya hyperbole was overdone but yeah he was solid on the analysis of the keepers positioning.
This is a really weird comment for which I’m keeping my comments to just it being weird.
Personally I think Ryan’s starting position was wrong. Too far to his left post against a right footed player. Al the better for us imo.
slipping with your exacting standards there
but Raya has never been someone to get a strong hand to the ball. Not too much wrong with his positioning there.
What killed him was not his positioning, it was the step back toward his left post as the arc, curve, and spin of the ball momentarily had him thinking it was going to his left. Funny as it is to hear him complain about the Puma ball, it may behave or appear quite different, and he may not yet have seen the Puma ball struck like that.
Its always something though…the ball? Just another excuse. He was beaten with a master strike, so why doesn’t he just acknowledge that?
Yes and No @Arminius , the micro seconds lost with his initial step probably means he wasn’t in a right enough position to get a stronger hand to the ball. That is positioning as you say it.
The great keepers like Alisson would have their positioning much better. And also been in with a much more better chance of getting more of the hand to that kick. It was a wicked kick. But the more i see it, the more i feel that Alisson would have saved it.
I know i said before that Alisson would struggle with that before. But that initial movement of the keeper makes a lot of difference.
Even if Alisson did get his initial movement wrong , he’s got a much better hand positioning as well as strength to keep that ball out.
If you watch the sequence carefully, his initial step is to his right, the correct decision. But the movement on the ball freezes him, and he takes a much shorter double-jump step to his left before finally committing to the dive to the right. If he continued with his initial read, he might well have had a chance to get on it. That’s why I don’t point to his wrist strength or his initial positioning, he just got fooled badly.
But that goes to just how phenomenal a strike that was - it is incredibly difficult to get that much spin and velocity on the same ball, but without the spin it doesn’t turn left and dip the same way, without the velocity Raya’s split second hesitation is not as critical.
It was a great goal in so many ways that nitpicking just isn’t worth it.
Dom is the hero of the week and Raya is an arse whether he had a chance or not.
