And how does that manifest? Most often as opposition walking straight theoughthe middle of us as we press meekly and way too easy to play through. You are answering your own question but caught up in nit picky “no true Scotsman” defenses about whether or not we are still pressing

You’re choosing to see what you want to see.
For instance our first goal vs Everton came with our high press..

We’re more situational with our press.
What you can say is that we haven’t yet mastered the triggers which you see with Szobo sometimes..

That just isn’t true. Robbo closes the ball down exactly as you’d expect him to in a normal play. Both he and Virgil are defending like they assume woodman is getting back up normally and so they have just a normal situation to respond to. Outside of that Midfielders are still tracking back into the box with Grav (I think) getting back to cut off the square pass inside. Maca is really the only one other than Woodman himself even remonstrating to the ref but still in active defensive position…everyone else is just defending.

It’s totally right to question the CBs for their failure to drop back and cover the line, but is that because they stopped expecting the whistle or because they have developed a tendency to brain fart their way into exposing us to danger. Either way it’s at most one player (Ibou) you’d be able to reasonably pin that one and even that is huge debateable as the reason for his failure to respond to the danger.

You are not being very coherent. The original question you raised was why are people complaining about opposition teams walking right through us. The answer is because teams are repeatedly doing it and it’s shit to see and worthy of complaint.

The focus of how much and whether we are cause of it is a sidebar and not particularly productive when you are no true Scotsmanning your arguments

From what you have written it would seem you don’t know what a press is, high or otherwise.
When pressing you create the situation. We don’t do that.
The goal that came from our press against Everton was because Robbo manufactured the situation. However these things should be devised by the coaches before the game. Which it is evident we haven’t been doing.
Our press is a random affaire where a player suddenly decides to press their man on the ball. That’s not pressing it’s suicide.

May I just say I love Flobs use of the random Frenchisms to his writing.

I like the way in your posts you introduce me to words, sayings, I have to look up to check what you mean. Very educational, it’s like being a kid again .

Btw I lived here in France for over half my life. It’s sometimes difficult to form a full ‘english’ sentence without improvising some french into it.

:100:. Said that in the match thread and was surprised that others felt differently

Robbo manufactured the press?
Like I said earlier, people will see what they choose to see…

It’s not the original question. Certainly not how I framed it.

The issue, as I framed it is how we press atm, how effective it is and how we should assess it in totality.

But you’re welcome to continue…

No complaints at the player, but complaints at the inconsistent officiating.

Brennan Johnson managed to get the game stopped three times when we were on the attack.

I remember the Gakpo one against West Ham a few years ago.

I watched the goal before posting to check my memory was accurate, and I stand by what I said. They clearly are expecting the ref to blow, and that isn’t an unreasonable expectation given he routinely stopped the game when we had the ball and Brennan Johnson claimed to be hurt.

All I know is I’ve seen enough .

So if the majority see one thing and you see something else the majority is wrong and you are right?

And who’s majority and how was that determined?

I understand majority to be you and your Slot out brigade and that’s ok.

Just don’t confuse that with the majority of normal LFC fans

The majority of normal Liverpool fans want Slot out.

There are only two options for me personally on the press…

  1. The press is broken and Slot hasn’t been able to fix it for over 12 months now.
  2. This is how Slot wants us to press

Both options are bad ones.

Option 3: The thing that looks like a bad press is not a press because it doesnt come from the press region of France and so the things that are awful about our defending are not reasonable to talk about because we’re not even pressing and you dont know a press is and are being critical because youve already made your mind up about Slot.

Nice to be magnanimous after the fact!

There are lots of angles to the Munoz goal. On our side, we should play to the whistle. That was a harsh reminder. Then with regard to the ref, he officiated it unevenly, and when Palace went over - Johnson in particular - the ref had plenty of sympathy and stopped it.

Bottom line is all’s well that ends well.

We won 3-1 and we move on.
