Needs to do more to deserve a start for me, can’t be giving the ball up that easily against proper sides.

No arguments there. Even when he was on one of his hot streaks for us a couple of seasons ago it’d drive me nuts to see the ball just bounce off him at times.

The way top teams are on transition nowadays…that can be a risk.

Yep. His hot streaks are very hot, but when he’s not on them…

Just for the avoidance of doubt, and so I don’t upset the usual suspects, I like Jota. I just think Diaz and Nunez are better.

I think what we will see from our main front 5 this season is runs of games on hot streaks, as well as patchy runs. What gives me confidence is that we have ample there for one or two of them to be slightly misfiring.

Also someone like Soboszlai coming in and chipping in with those goals from the midfield will only help.

Regarding Jota’s sometimes lack of touch…I remember plenty of matches where Salah or Mané or Bobby had atrocious ball control…it happens. But it’s something Diogo struggles with more frequently than they did.

He can be frustrating but he doesn’t throw the towel in, he keeps on going and he is one of those players you hate, you challenge him and the ball seems to bobble back to him

The thing is, his touch is 6 out of 10, but the rebounds he gets from bad touches is 10 out of 10.

What do you mean by ‘better’ though? They aren’t even remotely similar players: they don’t occupy the same spaces, make the same types of runs, take the same types of shots.

I get that you want those two to start more often than not - I am in agreeance with that given current form. But do we as fans really need to create divisions between player positions in the team? Its been done to death with midfielders, defenders (Matip in particular) and now we are starting on the attacking players.

Personally I just wish we would look at the situation and say ‘player X,Y,Z provide different ways for us to play. But Y is in form so play him’ instead of breaking it down to some abstract definition of ‘better than’.

Love what we have at the moment, players that are coming in/on that are making a difference and providing us both energy & guile, long may it continue.

Further, all our squad will be needed at some point

It’s just shit that we have this issue of defensive frailty early in matches.

I’d say top 3 should be out target this season, but the league is going to be a stretch if we can’t fix this early conceding problem. You can’t get 90+ points from 38 games coming from behind in 70% of those games.

Very good performance from Wataru. Gakpo put in his best performance of the season as well, capped off with a great finish that likely won’t be spoken about much given the quality of the other two goals in the game. Promising how solid Quansah looked again as well.

Tournament is definitely there to be won with City now out and a few of the other likely contenders set to face off.

Better at football. More likely to win Liverpool games.

The styles/situation stuff is largely irrelevant and much overthought. Pick your best players as often as you can. It’s not that deep.

I quite enjoyed that match, how the ref didn’t give the foul and certain penalty to that young lad Dork is beyond me!
Our young CB is even better as a winger, what a ball to what’s his face Jota who stood stunned thinking ‘who the fuck passed me the ball?’
Then that Big Dom lad he’s a real gem of a player.
We are building well, just need to keep scoring and of course aim for a few clean sheets.
Keep it going lads and up the enjoyment levels, please, 1-1!

There must have been a fold in the back of his shirt when I looked!

That, and the Leicester goal being protected by Buddhist monks or something. The amount of shots being blocked on the line or hitting the woodwork was crazy.

But the good thing is that the lads didn’t allow themselves to get their heads down, or to dissipate their commitment into anger or disappointment. They kept up their performance levels throughout the match, and eventually got their reward. Well done!

Another question: is it me, or were there empty seats in Anfield? It seems to me that it is ages ago since it last happened.
