Selling Salah who is by far our best finisher and best creator of chances? And we expect Doak/Elliott to replace him seamlessly?
Sure, let’s sell Van Djik when our biggest problem is proper CB depth. You can’t wait to see Joe Gomez who literally has at least 1 big brainfart per game come back into the starting line-up again eh?
Sure, let’s sell TAA and create another problem on our hands in getting someone in to replace his assists output when the protection in front of him disappeared and our RCM being shit at creating any chances at all.
Whichever way you cut it, there has to be a cash injection, whether we have that as an FSG loan that we pay off over time or whatever. We don’t have much in terms of sellable assets (the ones we do, we should think twice about selling).
I’m flip flopping from my previous position, now I want to hang on to Salah and Virgil
Stick an engine in this team and things will improve significantly. This season everything that can go wrong, has done. The midfield level has dropped alarmingly, and they don’t look able to fight for a full game. The physical and mental aspect are intertwined, and generally the midfield has grown old and needs replacing, and whichever old boys remain need to be in a supplemental, not a main role next season.
Changes needed. How many? I hope we are surprised, and it goes beyond expected departures. As long as Klopp is backed to build it up again.
I have no idea what he does except the person he is learning the trade from is not the best on-the-field role model. If you see his style of play, he huffs and puffs like the captain and can’t tackle to save his life like the captain.
The most damning part of his comment was shrugging off the Rodri lack of red saying he doesnt think we were good enough to win even against 10 men (despite that happening at 1-1 when we were still completely in the game).
There is an idea on here that Klopp always owns the failures of the players to protect them from criticism. That may have been true once upon a time when those failures were fleeting, but it feels like the people still making those claims have not listened to what he has been saying this year. This is a man who very clearly has lost patience with several of his players but has found himself having to make do with what he has for the rest of the season. I think that is really important context for what to expect in the summer.
At least 3 players that will cost at least a combined cost of 150 million pounds conservatively in this market which FSG will not put in more of their money in the transfer kitty due to the principle of not wanting to go against the mantra of having LFC run organically.
I chuckle at pundits and podcasters looking past this season to a “summer rebuild”, they talk about the club adding 3-4 midfielders, maybe a center back, etc… That is so far from the reality of FSG that I can’t even imagine it or pretend to get excited for the future of the club.
There is definitely a physical element but for me it’s mental first and foremost. Our Jekill and Hyde record home and away and against the top and the last 6 suggests as much. We can’t be physically spent just away from home or just against the bottom teams.
The points you make are different to the ones made by notasuperfan. However, I disagree with you both. Coming up with comments that his back to defender shielding comments are pretty weak, what is he supposed to do? And what do you mean by his passes afterwards aren’t consistent, it makes no sense. So you have a stat that after he has played a ball back to a defender, his next pass is “inconsistent”. Really….
A homeowner who is not interested in the keeping up with the Jones’ game everyone else on their street is doing will still acknowledge the need of spending the $15k necessary to replace his roof when it is time.
When you have an asset sensible stewardship of it does not preclude investing large sums in it periodically.
