Stressed while watching the 1st half. After we pulled back 2-2 at the beginning of 2nd half, I felt a lot more serene and thought that my heart rate was lower (but the fact is that it’s a lie though! My smart watch showed that I was stress with high heart rate throughout! )
Cursed out loud, cheered out loud, cursed out loud again, then cheered out loud. Then misfired on the cursing out loud. Each time my father called out from upstairs wanting to know what’s happened.
Entire match was like a fog in my mind. No idea whom I should vote for. Probably will rewatch the match later with a clearer mind. Blue Manc was a formidable opponent. They gave themselves a couple of yards and sprint to nullify our offside traps, and were fairly successful in doing so.
Whether the ref was good or bad, if he’d been as biased and corrupt as some claim, surely he’d have been harsher on Fab and Thiago when he had the chance.
Surely the fact that the eyes of the world were on him he couldn’t fuck it up? Liverpool supporters highlighting his appointment may have been key.
As for Thiago getting red? KDB would have merited one as well on that basis.
Over four seasons Liverpool are one point behind a billionaire sports washing oil funded club.
Liverpool are in with a shout in three competitions having already won one.
Yesterday a tough away performance away to said billionaire oil club. A point taken albeit in a game we could have lost, or indeed could have sneaked a win.
Yesterday we had people saying the team was shitting the bed. All week we have people questioning Mo Salah. We have players criticised because we were not beating Man City. At the Etihad.
Some people need to give their heads a shake and give the team a bit of respect.
We offer them goal opportunities by having our high line. Whilst it helps us score and keep the opposition attacks at bay, they have the skills to time their runs to beat our trap better than any other side I’ve seen.
Other teams won’t do that. They’ll sit back and hope to hit in the break. Like @Mascot said I wish we’d have dropped back a little bit and load up the team with our paciest attacking trio of Salah Mane and Diaz. Or what @Mascot said about taking one attacker off, putting Gomez at RB and allowing Trent to stay upfield without worrying about being part of the last line of defence.
Maybe we keep that wrinkle in mind for the CL final if we meet City.
What this game showed (in addition to other things) is that we can do with a multifaceted goal-threat midfielder. Against most teams we are enough. Against the likes or City and maybe Madrid we might come up short. Just the threat would keep their midfields honest and open up more space for our front 3
We didn’t play well and no period of real sustained pressure with the ball. We scored two lovely goals after winning the ball high and getting it into dangerous areas.
Very disappointed with the goals we conceded. We had numerous opportunities to clear the ball for the first goal but didn’t. Alisson’s passing on the first half was poor and put us under pressure several times. One such poor pass led to us losing possession that led to the corner that led to the second. We needed to slow the game down at 1-1, keep possession and get out heads together. Hopefully next week we’ll play better than we have on the two other games against them this season.
It wouldn’t give them extra games. It would be an extra game that would take place after the PL games are all finished. No advantage to be gained so we just go hell for leather and win all four. Somebody’s going to do it, eventually, and it should be us before them.
The thing is, offside is binary. You are either onside or offside. Apart from things like deciding if a player was interfering with the keeper it’s not down to opinion. We play a high line which often throws players into offside positions. Because the assistants don’t immediately flag for offside it looks like we get a lot of VAR decisions in out favour. A few years back that would simply have been an immediate flagging and the game stopped. Some of those flaggings would have been incorrect and cost teams.
