We have played better, but we can’t complain given how good City are. Their midfield is ahead of ours and they had a bit too much there, with Fabinho looking iffy for once, Hendo looking old and chasing Silva, and Thiago silky, but not hurting them enough.
I would have hooked Mo when Diaz came on. Mo has been a bit out of sorts lately, and he did not trouble Cancelo very much.
We all would have preferred the win but a draw is a good result, and it keeps us right in it.
City have the advantage, but we have to keep winning to keep them honest and see where it gets us.
Keira Knightly isn’t rubbish, but worth only a third of the £100M they paid. That’s the problem with money cheats. The mistakes don’t hurt them like they should.
They also took the quick freekick for their first goal a good five yards away from where the foul was given which meant Fabinho, who had given away the foul was then out of position. Still should have done better against De Bruyne but still, an issue I’ve yet to see be picked up.
As for Trent, the issue isn’t the fact he played him onside, it’s that he didn’t recognise Jesus was onside and therefore cover back with him.
The offside was close but it was offside. What should be noted was our defence actually played the offside. Sterling was always going to run away given the situation. If Matip instead did not play the offside and decided to run and follow Sterling’s run there’s nothing to suggest he would have scored anyway.
Not a great performance all round. Too timid and lacked composure at times. Defensively poor for the goals conceded. Opportunities not taken. Need a strong finish. Need to win the league.
Take a point given we only played for 45 minutes. That first half was painful to watch, haven’t seen our defence so poor since Kvarme, Piechnik and Tanner were in their pomp. Our arses went in those opening 20 minutes, panic in defence, no composure anywhere and no threat in the final 3rd ( goal apart).
Plenty of people calling for Mane to be subbed at half-time but left with egg on their faces pretty quickly. Trent was diabolical first half but had a decent 2nd. Thiago and Matip our stand-outs.
Nice of Anthony ‘didn’t see it’ Taylor to miss the most obvious corner in the 2nd half. Thought a set-piece was our most likely route to a winner at that point so very disappointing. He’s consistent, I’ll give him that.
As things stand it looks like Chris Kavanagh will be the deciding figure in this title race, the fucking corrupt cunt.
Lucky to get a point based on the first half performance but I’ll take it. Still plenty of games left, but for sure City have the advantage considering their run-in.
Fabinho and VVD both had shockers today but they are two of our most consistent and best performers typically. If you can manage to get a draw in spite of those two having pretty poor games then you have to feel good about our chances at a neutral field next week.
Also, our high line is super effective against most teams, but City have figured it out better than anyone. Every time we’ve played them the last 3 seasons, they have timed their runs on set pieces (and the second phase after a set piece) really well. Maybe drop that line vs them a little?
I thought Mane was excellent today. Salah did good work with his limited chances as well. I feel pretty confident going into the FA cup semi against them next week.!
A few games ago when Ox was subbed he looked gutted and frustrated, as if he knew his time here is coming to an end.
When we bought him I thought he may become a really good midfielder for us, driving runs, goal threat from his good shooting, and so on…
He was doing quite well before the big injury, and since then it has been difficult.
He has only played in fits and starts, and had a few more smaller injuries, and now looks a yard off the pace, while we have evolved to a higher level as a team.
I see a parting of ways, Brighton, Southampton, maybe West Ham, something like that.
Shame for the lad, big injury at the wrong time.
Still, multimillionaire, fit young fella, beautiful wife/girlfriend, plays for Liverpool… it could be a lot worse!
I don’t remember the last time I have seen that many turnovers by our team, silly turnovers. Misplayed passes, booting the ball up the pitch to nobody etc. That was a bit shocking, TBH.
We had spurts of good play, but I’ll be honest that Mo really needs to be rested for a match. He looks devoid of that burst of pace, and ideas to get past Cancelo today. Don’t think he had a shot on net today.
Henderson put in a shift but not once did he transition the ball forward to release our forwards. Where Thiago has the calm and the vision, Henderson seems to have lost that ability.
All said, will take the result… We barely deserved it
Awful first half, decent second, two seconds would be good enough I feel overall.
There crowd might be shite but their home record isn’t bad so you’ve also got to remember that when you think about next week, it’s going sound more like a good day at Anfield than not.
Anyhow this race isn’t done, stuff happens, we’ve got to be perfect mind as I don’t think they will lose another league game but they can draw one.
