Love that interview from Klopp on BBC. He loves it. Get a new contract signed boss!
Oh another thought from me.
That disallowed Sterling goal is a farce. Iām loving that it got ruled out because of who he is and who he plays for, but if VAR is ruling that out itās totally fucking up the spirit of the offside law. It can be technically offside, and totally correct in its binary application, but utterly wrong in practice.
Weāve had a few like this under VAR.
More often than not, our coaches and players just refuse to lose, from JK down.
Often they win, sometimes they donāt, but we are lucky to have them and we will miss āitā when it is gone.
I think both teams will be quite pleased, City with the performance and Liverpool with the result.
Status quo, no harm done for either team. Just keep playing, both teams probably have the attitude of needing to win all of them.
Actually, when I saw this in real-time I thought it was a mile off. I was surprised at how marginal it was but if the linesman saw it the same way they were better off not flagging and letting the technology sort it out because it could quite easily be on.
If you are not making it a binary application, then how do you decide it? Whatās the threshold? If RS is 1 metre offside, is he offside in your application? What about if heās 50cm offside? What if heās 20cm offside? 10cm offside? 5cm offside? How do you decide what should be called onside or offside? However you dice it, you canāt have open-ended rules and say āoh that looks offside so weāll call it offsideā. Even a threshold requires a binary application.
Agreed, when I saw it happen I thought it was offside.
I donāt mind that side of it. The check was quick.
Itās the other baggage that comes with VAR that winds me up.
āHold it there Anthony, weāre just checking whether that goal kick youāve just given comes off the defenders hand. Nope youāre fine it was off his thigh. As you wereā¦ā
Got to be honest, i didnāt fancy us todayā¦at all !
I kept out of the pre match thread because of it.
Happy with the pointā¦ happier my worst nightmare did not materialise
I was particularly impressed with Thiagoās Fernandinho impression today - Absolutely uncanny !
They were fucking fumingā¦almost as if theyād never seen anything like it before ???
Matip was playing Jesus on more than Trent it was his rear foot VAR went from.
So much right posts hereon.
I think weāve got a lucky point. Could have easily lost the game with such a bad first half.
Ive been making the same point since the inception of VAR a rule in the rule book has now become void being level. VAR make all offsides on or off the rule of being level is now irrelevant as VAR has to rule infront or behind.
Iāve said it before. If itās clearly offside to the naked eye, then call it off. If you need to be drawing lines to work out if someone is millimetres offside, then for all intents and purposes itās level. I donāt believe the offside rule was designed with this binary application in mind. It was designed to stop attackers gaining an advantage from standing in an offside position.
Thatās my biggest complaint with this. The technology has removed the notion of level or in line from the application of the law.
I would removed lines and endless Hawkeye deliberations. Five second scrutiny of the reply. If you canāt tell itās offside with that, itās on.
In real time I thought āOffside - shove that up your bollocks, you duck arsed cuntā. Then saw the reply and though āoh shit. Heās onā. Couldnāt believe it was ruled out.
Am ok with the point but feel like it was an opportunity missed. MC didnāt play that well but we played with a bit of nervousness that worked for and against us.
Salah and Mane were off it. Jota was good but not great, The midfield was good w/o being inspirational. The defence was a bit flat, especially VVD who was off his usual level but Matip was good.
The positive was that MC were their usual ugly self and their performance suggests that there are potential points that will be left on the field in the run inā¦ only problem being we have to be on it - all the time here on in!
For me, VAR with regards to offside is the only rule that I now fully agree with. I used to bang on about using the foot, however, I changed my mind, as a linesman looking along the line you just see someone closer to the goal and make a decision, at least with this VAR implementation they are using the correct body parts and it is probably the one thing that you canāt dispute depending that the technology used is accurate and therefore not a subjective decision.
But then it is still subjective and the angles of viewing can distort it.
As it should be to ALL right.
When they have the luxury to bring in a 100 million pound player from the bench, it jus made me appreciate the difficult job klopp has on his hands
