Far to ridgid no balance what so ever.

He has supposedly never beaten a team when playing against Virgil.

You need a better director of football; you’ve clearly got the wrong players. Banish them to the reserves and leak stories that they care more about PlayStation and cuddles from their mum (that’ll outrage the supporters) then go large on the market: loads of good eastern European and African players that would happily play just for the HT oranges and can skip school for extra training. You’ll be climbing the league in no time and ready for the u11 big leagues before you are even dubbed Mascotinho

Where does sharting fit into this? Accidentally shitting yourself when you meant to let out a cheeky fart to, you know, relieve the pressure?

My take is once you have covering players in position and with good communication, that is when you can have a go at winning the ball.

If I am a covering player, I then tell the player close to the attacker, he has cover and can now win the ball, and I repeat itseveral times mainly to get in the opponents head and to get them nervous.

What I don’t see anymore from defenders is to fake a tackle/challenge/jab at the ball anymore, again this is to get a player nervous and to make a poor decision

Problem is Trent still lacks the body positioning and determination to win the ball and to dominate the duel.

But as I said several times he never at least he never gave up.

In response to @Mascot about his under 9’s not understanding slowing aplayer down, I am still playing over 35’s and they don’t understand it either.

It seems to me that we still over commit when going to press and challenge for the ball in midfield and up front, we did it under Klopp and do it under Slot.

Overcommitting makes it easier to step past the player and then that player is behind us in space, which then knock on effect with our covering players having to then come across to challenge.

Apart from a couple of times in the 1st half Trent did excellently in slowing up Doku and the midfielders, Mo and Konate did brilliantly in then supporting him.

If I was Trent, I would really be looking at working hard on improving in the 1 v 1 battle and looking how I can improve in winning the duel once I have cover, it is his achilles heel along with switching off on the odd occasion.

The problem I have with so many people nitpicking his defending and acting all incredulous about Arne having the temerity to plan his tactics like that, is that Alexander-Arnold has made it a recurring theme in quite a lot of what he’s said this season about how closely he’s working with Arne on his defending. I don’t think he’s deliberately disobeying orders, or he’d get dropped. I think on the contrary, these are just the orders he’s getting.

Because if you have a player who is excellent in one v one duels, not saying our other options would win the battle v Doku, you then don’t need so many covering players, which means you can then leave them further upfield for when we win the ball.

I don’t see the need for our team or all our players to be absolute perfect. That’s not how football (minus the cheating) expected to be. I am glad we won and so easily after some difficult performances.

I just missed that no one did a Firmino bye bye celebration this time when we were winning at their ground.

Gomez isn’t particularly good when faced up by an attacker as he lacks the change of pace and direction to match Doku, who is small has a low centre of gravity, good feet, burst of pace and is quick in changing direction.

Luckily he hasn’t got a brain or a clue in what to do once he beats his man.

So his orders are to let Doku keep getting past him?

Look, I understand our game plan and shape was excellent and our covering players were exceptional in their positioning and City created bugger all, it was a tactical masterplan.

I also think that and hope that Trent will look at how he defended Doku and take the positives, in that he mostly slowed Doku down and forced him on his weak side, but also look at how he can improve in actually winning the duel.

However, with games coming thick and fast and the recovery needed, I don’t think he has the time atm to work on his body position etc.

I do think he can improve but with his height and general body shape he will always struggle against players like Doku, as do most defenders.

No, I’m talking about things like not committing, slowing him down as much as possible, and being more attuned towards how we can convert the turnovers into useful possession as opposed to what Robertson’s side would be, for example.

Your obsession with Trent is becoming a bit unhealthy. Even after more than one person has argued the point you still have to be right. This is your most tiresome trait in your opinion you are never wrong, do you honestly think if Trent was doing so bad Slot leaves it 87th minute to sub him.

Whoa cool off there. I don’t think @Sportbilly1966 has mentioned that much stuff about Alexander-Arnold before.

Have I said anything wrong, have I not agreed in how well he did in slowing Doku down and showing him on his weak side.

And, am I wrong in saying that Trent still didn’t win his challenges enough when he had cover.

Every player can improve and in Trents position it is an area where I would like to see improvement from him and I would expect Slot would think the same, even Trent has said that him and Slot have discussed improving this side of his game.

Also, which of our covering RBs does he bring on, oh none as both are injured. BTW Trent put a shift in and had Joe or Connor been available he would have possibly been replaced earlier.

Again you are talking shite, you add nothing to the discussions but just have a pop at posters who you disagree with and are blinkered in not reading all parts of what I have said.
