Post match: Man City v Liverpool (EPL 9/11/25 4.30pm)

Stop making shit up where have i said that exactly a quote and for whats its worth show us where I said Slot should go.

Also while you are at it im still waiting for this evidence saying Diaz was becoming distractive.

@RER not sure why my post above, 212, gets a laugh from you?

I’ve been a red since I can remember, and Keegan leaving and Kenny signing is about as far back as the memory goes. I’ve seen great Liverpool sides and I’ve seen some iffy stuff too. On a personal note I played at a decent level, county football and also centre midfield with a former Liverpool player, before he hit the big time and went pro. Long time ago now, mind. I have also coached junior football for years.

I try to be respectful to my fellow reds. I am reasonable and show my working if I give an opinion. For me, Slot, as a Prem winning manager from last season, deserves more time to sort it out.

Just wondering why you think that is funny? In the context of talking football, and it not being a joke, I perceive your laugh reply to my post as disrespectful.

If you are able to offer clarification, great.

If not, the calculus changes if I am being disrespected.

I mentioned City’s Pep era, in reference to trophies, not points (didn’t write or imply a number of points, right?). Dominating as an era, not as a season. Some where more, some were less, but as an era, defined by trophies, and being around the 100 points at peak, that’s Pep’s City.
So everything I said is in that context. As long as he is there (which ends at the end of this season), and as long as they are competing with him for trophies, is what I mean by Pep era being an era of domination.
I’d think it was clear.

You brought up Chelsea’s record of sacking managers.

I said Chelsea aren’t a model for running a football club

You said ‘in your opinion’.

The reason I’m framing these replies as questions is because you are being (possibly deliberately) obscure about what you think, and exactly why you are bringing this to the discussion.

I’d like to know whether you think Chelsea’s record of sacking managers is something to aspire to. You seem to be suggesting so by bringing it to the discussion, and then denying it’s your opinion after all.

You are being confusing.

Fuck off back to the Hill Dickinson, you bluenose troll?

Our fundamental problem is we’ve become too soft.

Re: Disallowed Goal

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have contacted PGMOL to question the decision made over the weekend.

Arne Slot’s side have rejected the idea that the decision was arrived at for subjective reasons - instead believing it’s criteria based. And they are keen to understand what criteria was reached.

Slot, himself, was furious at the decision: "He didn’t interfere at all with what the goalkeeper could do.

That’s a very lazy comparison. Chelsea always treat their managers shabbily especially since the Abramovich era started.
And at that point, in addition to the results, Mourinho hd antagonised their dressing room to such an extent that him carrying on became untenable.

It didn’t. You are very right. Nor did I imply it did.
The point I was making (or trying to make), is that City away is a very tough game. Even Klopp only won 2 in his 10 visits. Yes City is not the same 100 points team that it was, but I think the Pep-Klopp era of 100 points and thereabouts is gone anyway, and we are not the team that was reaching there, not yet with Slot (this team hasn’t peaked, I think that much we can agree), but already in the last couple of Klopp’s seasons. Both of those teams were ran to the ground to be able to get there for a few years.

So back to the point, it’s a very difficult place to win for us, Klopp only won 2 in his 10 visits, and expecting it to be easy just because we lost a number of games before doesn’t make much sense. It will be an exception to win there, whether we won the previous few games or we lose them.

Slot did the double over them last season, and we haven’t beaten City twice away in a row during the premiere league era, so it would be expecting a small miracle, especially in our recent form.

Adding the robbery we got (we equalized, it was wrongly cancelled - I guess you agree with that, but will not assume it, just saying what the consensus is, or at least what I truly think - and had it not been cancelled, I can’t see us conceding 2 minutes later, as the game would have been different). That’s an argument regarding the degree of the loss, which is bigger than it should, even if we played badly.

The thing is, Slot, for all his losses and recent form, has still been the fastest manager to reach 100 with us, and one of the very few to win the league in his first season. With a team that is yet to gel, grow or peak, to me at least it only makes sense to be patient with him. I for one am confident it can improve massively, and recent positive performances and results do show the potential to do that, it needs to be more and more consistent.
And I think it’s very much ok to have different opinions, and will respect yours. Just wanted to share mine too…

Very good reply and I do agree with a lot of it, I thought our malaise was down to individuals being off form, i.e Mac, Ibou, Bradley, Mo & to some extent Kerkez.

However, after our last 2 performances I thought we might be back.

On the city performance, you go for Grav not helping, when for me it is Mo that needs to do more, he just doesn’t track the full back and Ibou at times wasn’t close enough. Regarding Grav I thought he got out there a lot to try and help, may have missed when he didn’t. On that if as Slot said we were outnumbered in midfield then that can account for it a little bit, but then that brings up another question, why didn’t he change the setup to counter this?

We did improve 2nd half, but were still wide open.

It feels that collectively we aren’t at it and then individually we are even worse.

I hope Arne can turn it around, but he needs to make the transition from the old to the new, now, and set out a clear and concise plan to get the players believing, which atm it doesn’t seem like they do.

I think this season has been one where we haven’t has the rub of the green, but they say you nake your own luck.

The Man U game showed this, 95 out a 100 we win that game with the chances we had but then a lack of concentration and right willingness to fight to get a result or stop conceding cost us,

That is a stat and needs some context regarding duels.

They won more duels because they forced us to play in directions so they could trap us then collectively win the ball back or alternatively force us to play aimless long balls so they were favourite to win the aerial duel.

Duels isn’t always an individual thing it can be a collective or a tactic and that is where City beat us, they had a focus to make us play down our right and also attack us down that side.

…do you often go onstage at a live set in Ibiza at your quiet family getaways?

I just wish we didn’t go into another international break on a loss. A win - or even a tightly fought draw away - would have helped to cement some positive feelings over the next two weeks. Instead, we’re stuck largely bemoaning the current form of the club.

In any event, I would encourage Arne to use these next two weeks to identify whether it is time to reimagine his formation and tactical approach and who fits within it. I’d also encourage the club to consider dipping into the winter window only with longterm considerations in mind - no short term fixes or overpays designed to salvage this season. Think long term - who needs to stay and what positions need reinforcing. I’d also consider selling Salah in the winter window if the right opportunity presents itself.

If Slot wants to play with wingers, we need elite wingers. Mo is not that any more. Gakpo is solid but not elite. Wirtz offers something different, and I think he can be a great playmaker for us, even from the left, but he is not a winger as such.

If Slot wants to modify away from wingers, and the signings we made in the summer lead me to conclude that’s what the plan is, then he should get on with it! Even if it means ruffling some feathers.

I see a midfield diamond as the best fit for the current personnel, with two up top and width coming from the fullbacks. But if that’s not the plan that Slot has, I want him to grab it by the scruff of the neck and show us, because so far it’s been a bit all over the place this season tactically, not to mention issues with form, fitness and integrating new players.

I’m backing him to sort it out, but there is work to do.

sometimes i get the feeling he doesnt care whether he wins or loses

Gakpo has a purpose. He hunts goals. He doesn’t always do so effectively or efficiently. He telegraphs his decisions to cut inside and fire over and over again. Doesn’t even see the overlapping runs because his eyes are always focused on the goal. But he’s always trying to score, which does serve a purpose.

Gakpo might be better served playing in a front 2, where he can just hunt goals, over playing as a winger in a front 3 when he doesn’t seem to like operating on the wing.
