Post match: Man Utd v Liverpool (EPL 22/8/22 8pm)

If he doesn’t slide in and Sancho puts it in the bottom right he gets lambasted, I agree with Milly he has to block the 1st effort and would expect players to be stepping up and alongside him, it happens when we play other teams as they are in better supporting positions

He hadn’t done that though for a 18 months though. Ignore after the Afcon his form was awful through Covid and not much better afterwards he was then put through the middle so yeah he might have had the impact Jota also may have had.

I think we all saw it…its like left hand doesn’t know what right hands doing…

Are you confusing him with Salah? Manè was brilliant after AFCON!

Anyway, he’s gone :disappointed:

And we are getting easier goals against us than we score them, luckily our new goalscorer is available … oh wait, two more games, well he is available against the Bitters in September. :innocent:

Agreed. Don’t pretend all is good. Fans ain’t stupid everyone can something isn’t right. There’s a problem somewhere, injuries yes but team seems flat and past it’s expiry ngl.

This isn’t hurting as much because I could see it coming.

But I think Sancho has absolutely telegraphed that Dummy. It was obvious what he was going to do. I get that Van Dijk is too passive in that situation, but I still think that Milner is far too quick to slide in and effectively take himself out of the game.

City name 3 kids on their bench (ones with far less first team integration than Elliot and Carvalho) even when at 100%

Honestly, he was awful on the first goal. It wasnt so much getting beaten by the runner, but the complete lack of recovery (into the middle to make up for whomever had to go out to cover your guy for you) and lack of recognition the developing danger. He was staring at Sancho and just didnt recognize at all until he got the ball he was a danger. Only then did he react. As it was, he was a small fraction from getting a block on the shot. Had he have actually pout effort into recovering after he was beaten initially Sancho likely doesn’t score that goal (or at least has to do another trick to beat one more player).

Milner bought his team mates a bit of extra time to get back into positions where the can do something useful. Not one of them took it. He has every right to be furious. My only confusion is why he picked only on Virgil.

Think that’s a bit much. They came within a couple of goals from an unprecedented quadruple. Yes, we need a couple of reinforcements but still hopeful that there’s great days ahead with this team

Still think it’s a bit early to be considering Elliott as an established starter to the point you’d drop another relatively inexperienced lad in next to him away at United. It’s a matter of top level experience for me and Carvalho and Elliott combined just aren’t quite there on that front just yet.

Fully agree here though. You want to be able to give them breaks so they aren’t overloaded physically. To be able to drop them for a game or two if their form dips or give them some pressure free minutes towards the end of games where the points are secured. Overly relying on them too early, especially with how we’ve started could be damaging long term.

As I said he may be looking at the dummy but if Milly comes across without the momentum of the slide Sancho is on his stronger right for and buries it in the corner, by making him come back on his left he makes it harder, however, no one helped Milly and Sancho had all the time in the world to pass it in

Yeah Sancho had his head up. I’d agree with sliding in but if Sancho was looking to bury it. Sancho and most fans could see Millie straight through what he was going to do. Was strange with his experience to get sold like that. Virgil with his hands behind his back set himself up so he wouldn’t move. Felt that it was poor and unsighted Ali. Hendo gave the ball away stupidly up the pitch and Trent and Joey got beat fairly handy on the left hand side of the pitch to set him up. Elliot was also not tight enough to his man

Which is a week on Saturday. We need to get our act together for that game. If people think Utd were aggressive tonight, expect Everton to attempt to kick us of the park as usual.

I thought Elliot was our best midfielder today especially when we were in possession

The fact that we came a couple of goals from the quad, and look fucked right now might actually be linked.

We could do with an easy scoring midfielder, been a while since we had one.

Best of a bad bunch and did what you’d expect of him. Some nice touches and a couple nice incisive passes but he mainly played quite neat and safe. That’s not a criticism, I’d have loved a few more to do the same tonight.

But, he also had some really poor touches that led to chances for them. Plenty of other mistakes between his error and the chances but he wasn’t without fault. I also don’t think he’s great at covering for Trent in the way other midfielders on that side have been and he didn’t link that well with Salah.

Now that is to be expected of a young lad finding his way so I don’t want to seem overly critical but when that’s one of the better performances on the pitch we know we’re in trouble.
