Post match: Man Utd v Liverpool (EPL 22/8/22 8pm)

Quite a few on here had a go at me last week, you see the shit for yourself now.

At one point Martin Tyler said Milner was “breaking from midfield.” I couldn’t stop laughing. Milner our oldest player, one of the oldest in the league is the one breaking from midfield to support the strikers. We must be living in the fucking twilight zone.

This was the midfield that started the game.
Henderson
Elliott Milner

You guys are knowledgeable fans. Do you expect anything from that midfield away to United? Last week I said we like to hoard the old and the broken. Do you see it now? What the fuck are Milner and Firmino still doing here? We got offers for Firmino, Ox, Gomez…move the broken and the infirmed on to pastures new, man. Invest in some new, hungry players who have the legs and the grit to do what needs to be done. DO NOT HOARD THE OLD AND THE BROKEN.

And please don’t tell me we don’t have the money, we won two trophies last season, finished 2nd in the league and 2nd in the CL. We basically broke even with players in and out; but we are behind the Kosh because he haven’t improved the midfield, Mane left and we still haven’t replaced Gini.

There isn’t a game of football that that cunt shouldn’t be sent off in. His cheating is off the scale. It’s unbelievable that he is continyally allowed to get away with it.

Yeah we bought Darwin…but we don’t have anyone with brute force to fight in attack…and help out in defence…yep I’m talking about Sadio…we need brute force…and god knows what else…miracles, hand of god, spraying with holy water…the list goes on…

Hard to say much after that I felt empty and I couldn’t be bothered after that second goal.

Three games now we’ve looked poor in. I can’t see it being rectified any time soon. You might as well give Carvalho a chance against Bournemouth.

The team otherwise picks itself again bar maybe Tsimkas.

It’s very much that winter period again.

I thought he was injured during preseason? At least I don’t remember him playing in preseason

That’s my point? He was playing so deep he might as well just have been behind Henderson at times…

Maybe you should call the club and offer your services to Klopp? You clearly know more about football than he does.

You can’t say Milly played well that is against the norm :kissing_heart:

problem lies in that a system can be found out, and taken apart by other teams.

Klopp has had a good run of 5 seasons with this system, but without evolution we have become stagnant and it shows more often than not. We are playing the same way we have for 5 years, since the transition from “heavy metal football” to whatever it is we are playing now. the tactics haven’t changed, even most of the players are the same

We are STILL vulnerable in the channels
we are STILL over-run by a 4-man midfield with a press
we are STILL reliant trying to push the FB into attacking zones to create overloads
we are STILL not able to play the ball through the middle of the pitch.
we are STILL shit against a low block.

predictablity is killing us. teams know they can absorb pressure, pack the box and hit us on the counter. this has been on repeat for two years now.

Trent looks tired and out of sorts. Robbo has been off top form for a while now. Add that to Thiago’s injury and Firmino’s long drop off and we’re almost totally reliant on Diaz and Salah creating chances for themselves.

The midfield depth myth is being expose further and further week by week and our defence looks like a sieve.

Klopp has to shoulder some blame tonight too. That team should have flown out the traps second half but instead we were meek and ponderous in everything we did.

Worst of all was the mentality. We let them impose themselves. We were weak in challenges, sloppy with and without the ball, imposed nothing on them and ultimately ended up arguing amongst ourselves. It would stink as a performance anywhere but to do it there is unforgivable.

Some long hard looks in the mirror needed for everyone tonight and Klopp needs to pull them out the spiral fast.

Exactly like @Mascot said. its not lack of effort on parts of hendo and milly. Its jus age has caught up to them. their games are so geared towards the physical as they are not finesse players. once that speed and physicality is gone, thats all she wrote im afraid

Its 3 games without any effort…that’s why I think there’s trouble in the ranks…something is not right…

grouchy, drunk and still capable of not posting utter bollocks on a forum. Nearly did the quad last season.

On reflection regarding the midfield problem, I can’t help but wonder if the late Keïta injury completely messed up our pre-game preparations. I’m fairly certain he’s a little more mobile than Milner, and would probably be expected to be getting into their box and pushing play up a lot more. I’m not entirely sure why we didn’t re-jig the game plan, but the point is moot now.

It’s also probably why we looked better when Carvalho came on, perhaps he should have started, rather than the conservative pick in Milner.

Fed up with Trent taking pelters every game. Yes he plays risky passes, but he’s still by far our best chance of creating something. I could name 8 players that were worse than him tonight

Probably but it’s like being reliant on a broken clock telling the right time…

Glad im in Lanzarotte from Thursday. Wont be watching the next 2.

What were you saying after the City game.

Robbo’s interview spot on. Saying it how it is. The team need to pull together. He even cited poor starts to game stretching back to the end of last season.
