Post match: Man Utd v Liverpool (EPL 24/10/2021 4.30pm)

Has De Gea morphed into Mignolet??

De Gea has never been happy off his line.

He was always a last gasp shot stopper guy and never a guy who cares about positioning. Alli does 80 percent or more of the so called saves of the likes of de gea and prickford without breaking a sweat

Unlike De Gea, Ali doesn’t do camera saves. De Gea likes to make things look fancy and so the commentators cream themselves about “what a save!” - and sometimes they are good saves - but they often do so even when it’s routine because he makes it look like a big production. Ali just does his job with minimum fuss.

Same case with pickford…

He gets himself in position with his faulty positioning and then has to rely on himself doing an acrobatic save etc…

waiting for the fake orgasm scene. ought to be a doozy.

problem was, they’d already kicked Naby off the park at that point and it was escalating. it’s all fine and dandy to have the twin towers come in after the fact, but you’ve already been kicked.

you’re up 5-0 with 10min left, someone needs to give Ronaldo a good blast at that point and put him in his place.

This may or may not be available on pornhub by now but I think this is what you’re looking for…

Nothing fake about it though.

Doesn’t seem to be that serious with naby but we still would need a midfielder this jan window with milly injured

very much a red. was nice to see in the replay that Virgil gave him a blast and a bump but I would have liked to see him put on his ass.

it’s a reference to the original movie…ahh nevermind.

You think Milner might be out beyond January? He’s not dead is he?

Still a midfielder short with the injury records…

Ox keita thiago henderson…not guys whose record has been spotless so far

I think the calls for another midfielder this summer didn’t really account for the team using Elliot as a midfielder. I don’t think anyone really expected that.

Milner should be back before Jan. Elliot should be back in the new year. I don’t think the need is that pressing.

Didn’t get to see the entire game in realtime, but had a good time re-watching the full thing and took some time to gather my thoughts on the game. Apologies for the stream-of-consciousness narrative to come.

Pre-Match Thoughts: Had a nagging feeling they could bullshit their way to a victory, but I also felt like — for all the issues with missing Fabinho and Thiago — we could see some joy in midfield against McFred. In my most objective prediction I figured 2-2 with Ronaldo and Salah both scoring at least once.

First Goal: What the hell were United doing? I looked at a freeze frame from when the ball was played forward (think it was to Salah) and was amazed:

  • Wan-Bissaka was caught way too far up the pitch (in the way they allege happens to Trent all the time)
  • Lindelof is almost on the right touchline
  • Maguire is perhaps most at fault, as Bobby dragged him so far out of position it’s criminal. I get that Bobby’s whole role is to move around and pull the CBs out of position so that we can play the ball in behind to Mo/Diogo/Sadio, but he fell way too easily for it, and was about 40 yards from goal when the ball got played to Salah. Criminal (heh heh, didn’t even intend the pun).
  • Shaw doesn’t cover himself in glory, either, but to be fair to him he’s (in that moment) responsible for covering the entire center of defense. Shouldn’t be up to the LB to do both his job and the job of both center backs.
  • McFred nowhere to be seen.

Second Goal: Slabhead runs into his own player, not for the first time, 'nuff said. It was a good ball from Trent but any halfway-competent defense would have been able to cut that out.

Third Goal: Great cross, great finish, way too easy.

Fourth Goal: Helped largely by the fact that he was all alone, but that is a highly underrated finish from Mo, a lot like the Bernardo Silva consolation in the 3-1 at Anfield. Bobbling ball, hit first time left-footed, ball slotted in at the near post.

Fifth Goal: Gerrard-against-Fulham mark II from Hendo, great finish from Mo that is even more impressive when you consider his touch wasn’t the best. Again, joke defending (there’s a theme, here).

Genuinely didn’t know how to feel for the last half-hour — the last time I was able to “relax” in a United game for the last half-hour was the Kuyt hat trick at Anfield, and that was 10 years ago. Went and bought FIFA 22 straight after getting home, just so I could reenact it.

Agreed, I think this decision can wait until the summer and we know whether Keita and/or AOC are off.

Can we get back to discussing how shit United were though? Any clips of Maguire on Jota, Fred and Fernandes to pore over?

With a decision whether to look at a midfielder in January will depend on where Elliott is and how the rest are looking, if we pick no more up like Elliott then Klopp won’t go unless a long term target is available.

Could see them do another loan again mind.

Agreed. Most if not all the midfielders we have are injury prone with the exception of fabinho.

Atleast the seniors

Hendo Ox Keita Thiago… With milly on his last legs

The SSN ref watch (with gallagher) went through them all. His view was

Pogba red - correct
Maguire - correct, only a yellow
Fernandes - correct, only a yellow - he didn’t go over the ball and wasn’t two footed
Ronaldo - yellow, he’s kicked the ball, if the balls not there its red
Fred - correct, only yellow, not as high as griezmans and pulling out of the high foot.

Funny thing is, if the ref gives a red for any of those, Gallagher probably agrees there too.
