Post match: Man Utd v Liverpool (EPL 3/5/26 3.30pm)

We need someone with the mindset of Gerrard…could have as interim…just like carrick..

If not Stevie…who…we need someone quick…

but no European football…

I just keep watching the goals back and united today won the game by 3 goals scored. I’m not bringing the subject of performance into it, simply because goals do decide the match result.

It was definitely two experienced players that individually messed up for those 3 goals as they happened. MacAllister and Virgil.

Maybe Gerrard knows that Slot is on the verge of leaving and also wants to make a public point, when the replays show it for actually what it is.

An interim for when and how long?

🔴 Liverpool Beaten, Bullied and Left Clinging to Context #MUFC 3-2 #LFC | #PremierLeague

I predicted a Liverpool defeat in my my preview this morning, which is not something I do lightly, even in a season as miserable as this one. The injury list finally felt too heavy to ignore. For once, it was valid context rather than the tired shield it has too often become. But context is not absolution. Liverpool lost 3-2 to a poor Manchester United side and, in truth, the score flattered them. United were better, sharper, stronger, and should have won by more. Liverpool’s two goals came from gifts. United created the better chances, won the physical argument, and exposed yet again a side that cannot defend properly, cannot control key areas, and cannot be trusted when the game demands nerve.

Yes, there was a third-choice goalkeeper. Yes, Curtis Jones was filling in at right-back. But how did Liverpool get here? Poor planning. A January window ignored. A squad stretched to breaking point while the manager keeps talking as though this chaos happened to him, not under him.

Arne Slot may believe he can fix it. I see no evidence. The man-management has looked poor, the squad has looked underused, and the excuses now sound less like explanations and more like evasion. As soon as the season turned sour, so did the conviction behind the project.

Mac Allister was poor again. Gravenberch still does not look like a natural six when Liverpool are under pressure. The team tried, but trying is not enough at this level. United have done the double. City have done the double. Liverpool are falling into a Champions League place rather than earning one. This needs ending. Not dressing up. Not explaining away. Ending.

A squad full of injured uninspired dross.

Massive summer job for whoever is in charge next season.

Just watched the game and was going to make the same comment, we come back, are in the ascendency and we drop off and give them time in possession and as usual concede.

Just weak mentality, they were there for the taking.

We did well to come back, with some better intensity and thanks to poor play from them and some incisive play from us on their mistakes.

I just saw them again on the SSN highlights. The last footage of that match is an image of both Virgil and MacAllister side by side, heads looking down, with a full breath out, looking beat in a we fucked it up kind of way.

I expect to hear interviews from both or either of them this week giving a fair opinion of how those goals went in.

Everyone’s accountable as far as I’m concerned, if you know you fucked up, then be big enough to say it!

Robbo shouldn’t have started this game, he is a good option but not against good wide men, we got destroyed down our left flank 1st half, not just down to him as Cody let Dalot run free way too many times.

Most previous Liverpool teams wouldn’t, but under you it is expected.

The last clip of the SSN highlights of today’s match is this image of our players followed by Slot slamming a water bottle into the ground.

I’m buying what I see, today was individual errors leading to goals.

If I said now…there would be uproar…so I’ll say end of this season…till the new season…and get these players in fitness, fighting mode…

Yes Carra went mad about that which shows a lack of care and awareness and juvenile behaviour.

On both sides. What did we create for ourselves? What is the style we’re trying to impose? Utd are fucking shite and they’ve just done the double over us for the first time in 10 years.

99% of the goals either seem to be gifts, set pieces or individual brilliance with the odd moment of rarity coming like we saw against Everton when Mo scored or against Palace when Robbo scored…so if the players clearly are capable, then why is our football so negative?

I don’t like criticising the manager too much but when Slot set up the team with 5 at the back in Paris my estimation of him went down a big notch, he sort of hinted, after the match interview when he refused to answer the pointed question about his position, that he might not be in charge next season.
