Which cup games?
There is another issue at the minute which we possibly don’t want to think about, but FSG being canny business people will be.
As Covid has basically destroyed football finances, there will be a recalibration going on. At this point in time nobody knows what a football player is worth. Prices are going to have to inevitably go down in response to the losses of revenues, but nobody knows how much by.
So who goes first? FSG would probably prefer the market to settle before spending again. It might seem a non-issue to us, but these are decisions which could cost many millions or pounds.
Wait, what happened Eddie?
@Draexnael,
Have a big and flexible heart, be patient with others, some are shy to post and sometimes are not sure what to say.
As far as I am concerned, i am not worried. This season seems worse than last season in terms of the pandemic with even more restrictions and no fans to push the players or celebrations. It is a season to recharge the batteries.
An interesting comment made by Dominc King on Talksport, he said something to the effect (it was on 7:07 this morning), they are not physically tired, it is a mental tiredness. Before Covid, the team could meet and chat with each other in the canteen, go out to the restaurants with the team mates, chat in each others house, de stress etc away from the families dynamics at home. It is so restrictive and tight the Covid bubble they live in, it is affecting morale. He seems optimistic that boys will get back to their winning ways.
I completely agree, our slump began last year.
One of the problems with what Klopp built is its based on a complete team ethos, a huge amount of comradery… Players have come here to buy into Klopp/Edwards vision, they didn’t come for money thats not their first priority… The problem with that is exactly as you say its really hard to keep the same team dynamic currently… Look at Bobby without fans he is a shadow of a player.
Your City/Utd’s of this world don’t suffer as much, they are mercenary teams… Built on overpaying for talents who care about money first…
The more I think about it, the more I’m accepting we won’t win anything this year, we need to just get top 4 (which I think we will easily), consolidate in summer, refresh, with fans back next year we go again.
Living off reputation maybe, until teams worked us out…
Well boo fucking hoo.
Same covid restrictions apply to all of us. In fact, we get it worse as we don’t have the “elite sports” exemptions. No sympathy from me on this one.
@cynicaloldgit ,
Come on, some people handle isolation better than others. I found it hard in August.
Yes, we need a Centre-Back, but what to do, it looks unlikely in this window, with the financial difficulties and Covid.
On a positive note, Jota, should be back soon.
It does feel that way. But why? United players more clever? More media attention on Salah? Underlying racism?
I think Kane is the biggest diver in the league. Always dread these games against Spurs cos you know you’ll be left with that feeling of injustice in your gut at the end
I must have watched a different game. I thought that their first and third goals came against the run of play. Reality is that there wasn’t a clearly better team. Each had periods of ascendancy, unfortunately we couldn’t make ours count for more.
It’s still telling that while they’re in top form and we are on the opposite spectrum playing with no central defenders, they barely scraped through. Goes to show the massive difference between the respective squads at full strength.
I’m sorry but I don’t buy into this view because as it stands, our main rivals/competitors haven’t shown any signs of being affected by the reasons above especially on the pitch.
My point was look at City, Yaya Toure cried because he didn’t get a birthday cake… They are souless clubs, built on paying huge wages and winning… If your first motivation is money, you don’t care who your team mates are… City have had years of experience of playing in front of no fans…
Look at the friendly rivalry of Robbo/Trent… Both pushed each onto great things, where is that fun this season? It’s vanished, why?
I think it’s the lack of fans more than anything else. Other teams cope with this better cos half the time they play in libraries anyway. I know Anfield can be quiet at times too, but in the big games there’s no where else like it. Klopp thrives on the passion of the fans. He doesn’t seem to be having fun anymore either. Realistically the team haven’t been themselves since the first lockdown
Agreed, I got my partner to fall in love with the game and go crazy over us, but this season she can’t be bothered any longer, and not because we’ve been shit. It’s because whether or not we’ve been good or shit, you can always count on the referees to screw us over regardless…
Why is TAA still taking the free-kicks in front of the goal? It’s been a long time ago one goes even on goal they fly over the goal.
It’s time to give Thiago a shot at it.
I think this is one area in which VAR is not allowed to intervene right? It’s neither a penalty nor a sending off…
Last night someone told me that the players aren’t like machines and you can’t just expect them to change the gear. He is right. Just as this slump didn’t happen overnight, it’s not going to go away overnight. This slump is the result of the accumulated fatigue of playing high-tempo, precision-passing games; week in week out, for years. This slump is the result of the accumulated fatigue of overcoming the trauma of Wembley, Basel, Kiev, 97-points.
Players are not at their best. Players are lacking fire. Players are making mistakes.
I think it might be a good thing. Opponents may start relaxing a bit. They may start leaving some space. They may start forgetting to diving (yes, I’m allowed to dream). We will start notching up jammy 1-0s under the radar.
I’m still having trouble stomaching the Burnley defeat and last night. For some reason they are tormenting me more than our other slip-ups. Maybe I invested too much on these games to be that turn-around moments, well, they were not. So I’m trying to move on and look forward to Thursday (and reminds me, why the fuck do they schedule a game at 2 AM!!!).
Onwards and upwards, YNWA.
But they seem to intervene with ‘off the ball incidents’, players being confrontational…probably a case of sometheydo some they don’t…especially in LFC’s case…mmmmmm I do wonder.
Why am I the ‘resident pedant’ , I’m not sure how I’m being overly pedantic, here, or anywhere else…
Your just very aggressive, I’ve mentioned upecamano probably three to four times, most times saying he was a hypothetical name.
I’m really not sure how to countenance you to be honest as your just overly aggressive and I can’t be arsed with that type of debate
Basically, you seem to be at peace with us not signing a centre half in the next few days and I’m ( and quite a few others) are a bit frustrated it hasn’t happened.
Rest assured come feb 1st if there’s no new face in the door I won’t be burning effigies or anything.
I also don’t think every transfer needs 3-4 months to settle in.
Cheers. And relax, eh?
I believe those are usually to do with violent conduct, e.g. the half-time fracas against Burnley, where they were apparently reviewing it due to suspected violent conduct by Fabinho (spoilers: it wasn’t)
I’m not saying there’s a massive conspiracy by any means. I certainly don’t know the cause of it all, but what I do know is that the refereeing this season seems to be leaning against us very heavily. I remember at some point last season, with the introduction of VAR, it showed that we got the most benefit out of it, I’m guessing in part due to things like the way we play benefiting us from offside/penalty decisions that would otherwise get missed. That certainly lines up with the analyses showing that pre-VAR, we were one of the teams with the most incorrect decisions against us. This season however, it seems that there was a structural change in the refereeing again, such that somehow we seem to not be getting decisions for us that most other teams would get.
