Post match: Man Utd v Liverpool (FAC 24/1/21 5.00pm)

Better but we played into their hands a bit I think. We still don’t look right and everyone knows our right side is as soft as as a smoothy.

Mancs will claim they deserved it and it will be hard to argue it to be honest. They played the game pretty much exactly as they wanted to.

Worth noting I think that some of our best chances seemed to happen when Firmino sparked into life. Perhaps that’s where the key is, along with sorting Salah’s head out.

I don’t agree, and that’s ok. I respect your opinion and we can agree to disagree. I thought United were the clear better side on this day. They executed their plan to perfection. Yet again, we had a lot of meaningless possession and they punished us playing counter attacking football.

We really, really wanted it’

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "There was a lot of good things and some mistakes around the goals. If you want to win here you have to be absolutely top and we were not.

"For the first goal we had no protection, we wanted it too much. Things like this should not happen but they can happen. We had too many platers in a receiving position.

"We can take things out of this game, we try to learn from every game. It’s good for Mo Salah, good for the confidence. It was a tough game. We want it hard but tonight it was not enough.

“If you win a game there are negatives, if you lose a game too but I saw the boys really, really wanted it. We had problems on the counter-attack, it was intense, but there were positives.”

I keep thinking, hoping, praying; next game, we will do it in the next game. When will that next game be???

The only reason we looked a bit better tonight was because we were playing against a team who were trying to beat us.
All our pitiful displays have been against parked buses.

The team is not a machine, very rarely does any team spring straight from poor form to champions form. There were a number of positives to take from today’s game. Ok, defensively we were poor, but no surprises there. We posed much more of a threat offensively and that bodes well for the Spurs game. If we can get the front three clicking again, and get Thiago to a stage where he is effective for 90mins (rather than 60mins), we’ll be in a decent place, and hopefully by February, we’ll see Jota again.

It was ridiculous. Their equaliser doesn’t happen if someone is there covering for TAA which is one of the most basic things we do under Klopp. So why the hell was no one there leaving a teenager with no pace alone to fend off one of the speedier players in the league?

If Henderson was available to play in midfield, somebody would have been there. Which brings up another point. Many have pointed out that that we’ve missed him on the attacking side but defensively the midfield has suffered even more. Wijnaldum is doing his thing but Thiago is struggling. With Fabinho being a permanent member of the defence the midfield has lost most of its bite. Which is why it has become easier for opposing teams to counterattack us.

If Thiago doesn’t lose the ball they don’t break for the 2nd goal wasn’t a hard pass to control bounced off him like a pinball machine.

He finished two goals, not sure bar Curtis what anyone else particularly did well.

Anyhow glad to see some goals shame we are out because of our back line issues, was going finally show I guess, hope Hendo is back soon.

Fuck it, less games to play I guess. Would have been nice to win the fa Cup but the league and champions league will have to do.
Have to experience the downs to appreciate the ups.
Just feels like the last 5 or 6 weeks almost every single thing is against us.

To be honest if we are having to manage Matip in the way we are we probably can’t remain in this, anyhow I saw enough today to say we can get back to winning.

Yes that’s it, our owners don’t care… Nothing to do with a fucking world wide fucking pandemic is it…

You are another one, crawling out from under your rock with your bitter agenda… Not a peep last season from you.

Other clubs have signed players since the pandemic started.

Plenty of good competent stoppers in the EFL.
They might not be world class but would be better than playing our two best midfielders as CHs.

List them and the type of deals. (This window)… As RER says, we signed 3 players in the summer, or have you forgot that?

Thats the trouble people fail to understand with Klopp he wants people who fit his system. The prime example of this was Virgil he didn’t go for 2nd best just for sake of it.

If you mean in January clubs have signed 4 players 2 are loans one is Snodgrass going to West Brom and the other is a Danish kid to West Ham I’ve never heard off. The spend for January has never been this low. Struggling sides which normally panic buy to stop up aren’t even doing that.

Another game, another example of corrupt refereeing.

Decent performance though, good that we’re back scoring.

As to centre back, this issue is becoming divisive. It’s true neither Williams or Phillips should be playing against top sides. But that’s going to be inevitable when injuries and suspensions to Matip, Fab and/or Hendo happen at the same time.

People on here should listen to the Radio Merseyside phone in after matches. Most of them, quite reasonable in how they say it, say that it is bonkers that we’ve done nothing about this in this window.

Most of those callers refuse or don’t understand the impact of Rona on finances. So far in Jan there has been 4 deals.
