Itā€™s amazing how much he is like a knock off Luis Suarez from Lidl.

Lidl products are actually decent, and at the very least value-for-money.

I think its a bit disingenuous from rat face there. If we look at the facts, Slot was really number two choice after alonso. Amorim was more mainstream and social media driven than anything. LFC started leaking to Onny that Amorim was not the only choice and there was someone else in play that Hughes/Edwards favored. so this thing about him being 3rd, 4th etc is bullshit

Iā€™m not sure itā€™s even that simple. Didnā€™t Alonso take himself off the market before Edwards and Hughes were in place.

I remember some Amorim/Di Zerbi talk before we appointed Slot, but I donā€™t think it was anything more than rumours.

Was Alonso ever a preferred option for the club, or was that just wishful thinking from fans?

We donā€™t know, because by the time the club had its key appointments above the manager in place, Alonso had already ruled himself out.

From memory, I think there was interest from the club, but Alonso wanted to focus on finishing the season before deciding his next move then ruled himself out opting to stay in Germany (until the Madrid job comes up next year most likely).

De Zerbi and Almeron were more fan/media driven due to both being seen as having the need to conduct major surgery on the squad to suit their styles, so were never really serious options for the club

Leverkusen looked all over the place against Leipzig.

Leverkusen had a lot of moments last year where they looked very shaky.

Itā€™s not as if they were perfect last year.

Some CRAZY comebacks. Canā€™t keep relying on that.

Yes, but then again they started their season like this:

Shame it didnā€™t work out against Leipzig, at home to boot.

Lets not forget that this is Nevilleā€™s modous operandi of deflection. Cast your mind to the Old Trafford game where fans protested at the Glazers he had to keep pushing FSG were as bad. Yeah we wanted to get shut of Eric, but Liverpool couldnā€™t get who they wanted.

If I remember on the analysis Slot did appear in the lists he was just never the bigged up name.

I often wonder where Alonso sat he was overly the fans favourite but Iā€™m not sure the club ever saw him that way.

I donā€™t think they were ever massively interested in De Zerbi, guy left me cold.

Hughes had been appointed for only about a week by the time Alonso announced in that press conference (late March) that he would be staying at Leverkusen. And lets remember, Hughes technically didnt start for us until June. Even if Hughes started work early on the hiring and put out calls to Xabi, there is a huge canyon between making exploratory phone calls like that and making a decision on who you want. So the idea we would have had a clear picture of who we wanted as the replacement that soon after the appointment of the man responsible for making the decision is silly.

After that, Almorim and De Zerbi were getting press attention, but all the most credible accounts seemed to be reporting reservations from Hughes about both guys.
