This is it. This was the big banana skin of a game and we made changes to reflect where the game fell in our run in. And those guys absolutely delivered. could not ask any more from either Milly or Gomez today. Milly showed he is worth another 12 months and Gomez made an argument to at minimum take opportunities to give Trent a rest more often.
Easy to underestimate that performance. Newcastle are on top 4 form under Howe and they were a distant second best, at home, against a changed team on a short turn around from a european tie. We dominated them from start to finish and while we might air disappointment at not getting the additional goals our dominance deserved, that is still an acknowledgment that we did in fact utterly dominate.
Well done to James Milner for getting the BT Man of the Match award despite that horrific career ending challenge on Fabian Schär in the build up to the goal.
Thought we fucking twatted them today to be honest.
As a wiser man than me will no doubt have said by the time Iâve written thisâŚnever in doubt.
Just like the Sandcastle owners like to do to their citizens in their own consulate, we killed and dismembered them today.
The scoreline didnât reflect it, but we created an abundance of chances and limited them to practically nothing. Fatigue absolutely was presenting itself today with the poor quality of passes and strikes, and poor decision making. Even Diazâs quality fell off later in the match and he is surely due for a rest.
Keita head and shoulders above the rest today. Very cool finish but it was the rest of the game beyond his goal which was great to watch.
Iâm making a mention to Milner. Hasnât played much so doesnât have rhythm, provided the good tackle that lead to the goal, and his beautiful payback shithousery with the fake head injury⌠Well I love to see it against this lot.
Such an important, but ugly result. Proper âfrom the heartâ stuff from the boys. Well done!
Absolute dominant performance. Not gonna lie - I had doubts about this.
Naby with by far the best performance of his Liverpool career this far - and not because of the goal. He was really at it in terms of pulling his weight (and skill) in dominating the midfield. Hendo and Millie were the perfect addition to that against this lot.
Joel showed an absolute masterclass in modern centerbacking - and that is considering Virgil was at his ice-cold best today again as well.
Rumor has it somebody called the cops on Diaz. Up front he took the crown with relentless fight and ankle breaking and would have deserved two goals at the very least. Other than that I thought our frontline was on the binge last night and still hazy in the nogginâ. Schocking misses.
3 important points. Letâs hoof the campaign into the UCL Finals next.
Another routine win, hard to pick man of the match, Back 4 all brilliant, midfield 3 also poor finishing up top, should have been 5 0r 6 at least. Onwards and upwards.
Good performance, seemingly without having to go through many gears. Full control, played some decent football, should have scored four.
I thought our back five were low key brilliant today. I voted both Matip and Virgil in the poll, just think they make it look so easy. Keita was my third, probably MOTM for his many excellent attacking involvments.
It was the most comfortable yet nerve wrecking 1-0 win youâll seeâŚmaybe because thereâs so much at stake and weâre edging closer and closer towards the end.
Another blow landed on the Oil Club menace. The collected nerve-holding of the squad and the managerial team is both remarkable and admirable, the stuff of champions in fact. Great days indeed.
