I hope that i will be proven wrong on this but despite the improvement in Leeds , I dont see anything other than a routine shitty win.
At first I was a little bit worried about our mid field selection but once again the Boss showed why heās the best manager in the World. As the game went on and we were missing chance after chance I thought Newcastle will spawn a jammy one and itāll end up 1-1. And two points thrown away. Luckily our back five made it look easy and another tricky three points on the board. Gave Milly my MOM for a solid 100% performance from a guy thatās only had a few game minutes this year.
Keita was MotM for me but a few caught the eye. Gomez had an exceptional game and Diaz seems just as lively on the right. Milner also had a really solid game, he seems to have the constitution of a Clydesdale.
I always remember my uncle taking me to matches and saying that he always enjoyed the game with a two goal lead - it wasnāt match over but it was comfortable. Thatās how I felt today. We didnāt look like conceding but I really had one eye on the clock in the last 15 minutes. That extra goal would have been worth having.
Anyway, we have rested a few key players today and we can look at game management against Villarreal on Tuesday - and start it with that two goal lead.
Sad truth is they will be massive favorites in all their remaining game. No teals test left in their schedule unless Stevie laces them up for Villa on the last day of the season.
Newcastle Wolves West Ham Villaā¦for city after this
Yeah , city will be favs but wolves and west ham could do us some favours.
Thing is, so much of their success this season has come from the terror he produces with that approach. The difference today was he was up against excellent 1-1 defenders who gave him no change at all. Every time he moved to try a new match up he found himself up against someone just as good.
I ignore it til full time
I like him as a player. Reminds me of Zaha in a way. Quick and can dribble. Not good enough for any top 6 PL side but can do a job for a midtable team.
Its difficultā¦and also tempting to checkā¦and hopeā¦
How does Keita get MOTM. Oh yeah he scored the only goal, thatāll do I suppose.
About Allan Saint Maximin.
He was raw under Rafa but there was some definite potential there, sorta stagnated under Bruce but still has his moments. As mentioned before, he is the key to Newcastle and their attacking gameā¦ But he was up against a very solid backline today which didnt give him an inch.
Will be interesting to see whether Howe can improve him after stagnation at Bruce era. Think he will find that newcastle will quickly grow as a club in terms of player transfers and he might not be given the same time as what someone like Zaha had at Crystal Palace.
That was about as comprehensive a 1-0 win as you can get. We were in full control from start to finish. I expected more from Newcastle but we negate other teamās strengths simply by being so good ourselves these days. Milner was immense and Iām not even making allowances for his age. Easy to see why JK wants him to stay.
Keita was excellent, really well positioned in midfield to help turnover possession and provided lot of drive going fwd centrally. The goal was just the cherry on the cake. Hopefully he can continue to play like this - a midfield of fab, Thiago and Naby right now is pretty awesome.
Against sides with not much of height in the midfield. The trio should do very well against the quicker more technical sidesā¦ But for the PL , Need some more physical presence which is where Hendo comes in.
Watching the replay. Not only did Millie get the ball cleanly, it was Schaer who hit Millie first. And there wasnāt an issue with Milnerās trailing leg either. Clean as you like. Yet BT sports commentators kept banging on about it āmake up your own mind about the challengeā
Just nothing in it!
Yup.
BT interviewd E Howe after the match, and tried to stir it up by using choice of words to make it seem like it was a contencious decision. Fair play to Howe, he diplomatically said that VAR wouldāve looked at it, so no issues.
Bt studio guests and Peter Walton all agreed it was a fair challenge. Yet, theyāre just after youtube clicks with the commentary and the after match interviews.
Yeah right! just he was the one needing rplacing as as soon as Salah came on he stayed up as an attacker asking Salah to defend!
Job done, very professional. Got some rest into a few of them, and others came in and did a very good job. Only slight gripe is some wastefulness in front of goal, and we should have been three up, so when they had a chance in the 87th minute we were vulnerable to the sucker punch.
Still, allās well that ends well!
Now come on Ted Lasso!
