Post match: Newcastle v Liverpool (EPL 4/12/24 7.30pm)

I’d say the main difference between him doing it and others doing it is that he has the price tag and the reputation weighing on him already. Numbers-wise he’s not far off what Mané and Firmino produced in their earlier seasons, but he’s getting slagged off far more. They both missed sitters so often too.

well i do Thank you, sir… I get my brilliance from the forum legends themselves. Not to name names, but it would be disrespectful not to. So I thank @cynicaloldgit, for my quick wit and charm and I thank @Alright_Now_Legend, for my slowness in comprehension, which helps me think all things through before responding

Once the referee dished out the yellows, it takes the edge off those players for the rest of the game. If we are not getting hammered by poor decisions per se, we are getting yellow cards that the other teams are not

Fair enough. Hadn’t thought of that, certainly looked to me like he could.

He’s been so assured and solid.

Back yourself in!

Then the only difference is luck.

How often have we seen Alisson pull something off that could quite have easily gone wrong? The things he did in his first few seasons that have indeed gone wrong seem to have been forgotten very easily.

The simple fact is moments like these are unjustly used to criticise one player while being ignored for others.

Yeah don’t think the catch is on, but at that moment dont chance it and concede another corner with a punch. All split second stuff however.

Poor comparison as Bobby offered far more than goals, whereas Darwin runs a lot

But then he should have pawed it away. He can’t take the risk that nobody is arriving at the back post.

We were behind twice, away from home at a lively stadium, on the back of 2 massive matches & based on all these this I think that’s a point gained

Anyone putting Kelleher down for his (maybe) mistake for the equaliser can jog on… The lad has saved us so many times.

It’s a bad decision whatever the thought process but I’m guessing he felt like he would have been reaching to try and grab it and so decided that letting it run was “safer”. He has made that error a couple of times in recent games but got away with it, unfortunately he didn’t this time.

Nope. It’s judgement.

Disagree, because while Núñez has not been contributing as much this season, last season when he was getting slagged off for similar he was contributing what Firmino used to do too. It’s just a matter of one being loved and seen as a “different kind of player” whereas the other gets compared to Haaland.

Agreed they both missed sitters, but Mane finished his third season (which Nunez is in) with 22 PL goals and shared the golden boot with Aubameyang and Salah, and he was playing on the left most of the time.

Punch it for a corner if in doubt, but saving giving a corner away is understandable - Punch for a throw-in and hope it reaches the line… Either way, he is unlikely to take such a gamble ever again in his career

As @Hope.in.your.heart said, it’s highly unlikely that someone could score from that position, let alone Schär. Others have also contributed that it doesn’t seem like a clean catch, so he’d have to put it out for a corner.

The question of judgement therefore falls on, are we more likely to concede from letting the ball run out or from a corner?

In his third season with us, Mané was 27, having joined us when he was 24.

Núñez is 25, having joined us when he was 22. Rather different there.

Then he got is positioning wrong which is just as bad

I mean, I grew up on Aussie Rules…that type of ‘mark’ happens dozens of times a match. I felt he could catch it.

Failing that, punching it into the 17th row would have suited me fine.

Fecking lucky cunt, Schär.

Anyways…we were dogshit…even being in with a chance of 3 points was all about Mo.

Some player, that bloke.

Nope. You clear the danger first, and then deal with the corner. It’s basic defending/goalkeeping.
