We’ve conceded 2 goals all season. The only title contender that isn’t conceding goals currently
Exactly. Last year we would have conceded in that game and then been panicking trying to score 2 or 3
It is a fair point, but Alisson is a big part of that. Today could have played out very differently.
We did manage to hold Palace to under one goal of xG (0.71), but it was closer than it should have been. It would be good to start getting that safety goal in some of these. But my basic point was that Slot isn’t looking at this as high-risk, high-gain tactical choices.
Yeah he’s incredible. Never needs to make spectacular saves because his footwork and positioning are so good. And he projects calm. We have a great replacement but miss Ali in so many ways when he’s out
Ok
It was possibly a penalty.
It doesn’t get given at the other end.
You now have a sample size of one to suggest we “got away with it”.
Shirley massive rules.
Good evening chaps n chapessess’s…sorry couldn’t be with u today…had this weird headache…no not a hangover…had to lie in a dark room…
Anyway…sounds like a tough game…I’ll try and watch it somewhere…
It’s funny that the ref was SO against us and we dodged a decision which we’ve all seen given. Fixed my fucking arse.
But Palace also had less than 1 xG and Liverpool lead the league in lowest xG against (5.72).
Of course we should always seek to improve but I believe someone else said we are weak at the back which is just factually nonsense.
We’re doing well so far. Hopefully we are still on top by bonfire night, after some bigger tests. Still a long long way to go from there, but we will know a bit more about the side at that point.
There is also bit of an odd inversion that no one ever says after a winning performance “yeah, but if the forwards didnt do their job and scored goals they wouldnt have won”, but we routinely see that when Ali does his job. He’s rarely pulling off miracles, but even if he is that is what we paid the money for.
What it is if teams have a few shots suddenly you are defensively weak.
Our defense: Allow a forward to run offside who then puts it in the net and sees the flag has gone up
Fans: “ARGH, we have to sort out our defense. We got away with one there”
Likewise Palace blocked 5 shots if it had been other way around defense is a mess and we were lucky, Palace do it its defensive master class.
I was glad he came back after his last injury in hindsight I would have preferred Kelleher to stay in goal until Ali had properly healed his hamstring injury and come back against Chelshit. Klopp’s injury specialist would not have allowed him to come back so soon. I was dead frustrated at how long players took to come from injury but I now understand why.
His last injury was reported as a thigh problem not a hamstring.
He was holding the back of his thigh and the hamstring is at the back of the thigh when he tried to walk he could not extend his leg which is typical of that which I have had myself several times. As a result of coming back too early it ended up curtailing my sporting career because I couldn’t sprint or even jump as it went like piano wire.
Hope that Ali’s injury isn’t too serious,he was playing really well till then.
Thought Jaros when he came on did well too.
Rubbish reffing from Hooper but we expect that…
Good first half, second not so much, but we hung on for the 3 points, going into the break top so all good.
It’s the chances like the one we gave up to Eze that are the worry. The chances that come from losing the ball at awful places, like TAA and Gravenberch have done a couple of times or from failing to clear our lines.
It’s also worth noting that we haven’t faced free-scoring adversaries so far. Palace have scored 5 goals all season. Better teams will take advantage of the kind of openings we present them. Especially if Alisson is missing.
Spot on. Not impressed with TAA here and I do wonder if we’ll see a lil’ Mickey Owen redux: goes to Madrid for free in the summer, has one (decentish) year there and then they flog him to Newcastle etc as we baulk at being fleeced by them.
