I would rather win the FA Cup than the Haribo Cup…but it’s not be…
Last time we pushed for the Quad half the players went down with quad injuries and we lost a CL final we would have won without those injuries.
End of the day it’s an almost impossible thing to do, might be over compensation for the loss but it doesn’t much feel like it. In fact PSV feels worse. Anyhow it’s for the older players to step up and only Kelleher did that until about the 75th minute by all accounts (personally I thought a walk around the book shop was more useful use of my time).
We’ve lost Gomez hopefully not for a long period but a very critical period. Imagine we had lost 1-2 more ahead of what is a brutal period. If we had gone out on Thursday then he may have name more names on the bench but I do think the team should be better.
It was the worse case scenario for Slot here…A match lost and another senior player lost to injury again in this stage of the season.
Mabaya showed that he is not even at the level of the lower half of the Championship yet which is slightly disappointing given how he was raved on by some here.
Nyoni and McD struggled but were not the worse of the performers here.
The disappointing ones were the supposed senior players.
Quansah is already 22 but lacks the composure of a top flight CB despite being in and around the first team for 2 years and having the best CBs in the world being his mentors…
Chiesa huffs and puffs but lacks the sharpness.
Diaz is just so woefully out of form that bottom half championship full-backs can best him in a one on one.
Tsimikas’ crosses and set-pieces today were plainly shit.
Gomez’s body is breaking down so badly that he might either need a long rehabilitation and reconditioning or play at a less intense league/level or even retire. The last time I see a player’s body breaking down so easily was Thiago who ended up retiring at the end of the season.
The worse performer was Harvey Elliott. Never mind him not being able to keep the damn ball in the middle of the park. Never mind him not being able to thread pin-point through balls. But fuck me, what was he doing today? Why was he playing volleyball in the 6 yard box, conceding the penalty? After making that terrible mistake, he continues to misplace a simple pass or makes a hollywood pass or cross to a plymouth player.
Also flip side is we don’t go straight into a cup game after the next international break so all the South Americans can be fully recovered.
I’m not angry because we’ve been here before and I’ve seen what happened, some seem annoyed because they can’t take some ribbing at work.
Also unlike Man Utd last season basically only 1 of the likely starting 11 was on the pitch.
Disappointed, always hopeful that when youngsters get a chance we get a glimpse of something potentially special. Gomez.
A lot of reports suggest Gomez wasn’t injured.
Fingers crossed as he could do with being an option over the next few weeks.
BECAUSE WE’RE MASSIVE!
I heard he got the runs. Unconfirmed.
We got we deserved and I am relieved because if we got through and got a big team next round we more than likely go very strong again and we could end up like last season.
If the LFC and TAN don’t have a stripper-gram here within 90mins I’m cancelling my Patreon and writing a strongly worded email to Maeve on reception.
Well I doubt it was tactical.
Yep, him and Chiesa played like clowns.
We done well at the back today but in midfield and up front we were really poor, in fact one of our players started badly and got worse as the game went on lol, not naming any players.
But we are, and we didn’t. We know how good this team because of exactly those realities and a bad result today changes nothing.
I get people for whom the FA cup is still important. But for lots of fans it simply doesnt define anymore what makes a successful club or what makes a succesful season.
What this was what an opportunity for some players to find out what it means to be given responsibility and an opportunity for Slot to learn about them. To me it showed was that without Mac and Grav we lacked any sort of platform to play our football. That ever present option in the middle of the pitch was not and without that key cog in the passing approach we just couldnt move the ball the way we normally do. As I said in the game thread, that meant for players like Harvey they were often standing in the positions they’d expect the CM to be able to find them, but we were not finding that first ball into the CMs feet to then move it on to players like Harvey.
The most disappointing thing is we cannot even learn THAT much from that. Had Endo stayed in midfield and we played like that we might be able to say “this is why he isn’t playing that much” but he only got 10 mins there before dropping into defense. I’m not entire sure who out of the midfield was then tasked with staying deeper, because whomever it was was very rarely showing for the ball as needed in those positions. I guess that means McConnell nor Trey are going to play 6 against Everton.
Spewing and trotting…is the narrative going round.
I sure as fuck hope not! If it is the shits, then not so bad for the team. But looking at his lack of urgency to go to the toilet, I guess not…
You’ll get more shots on target with a strip-o-gram than we managed today.
