Post Match: Plymouth Argyle v Liverpool (FAC 9/2/25 3pm

You don’t have a clue, Quansah, for me was our best player and both Chiesa and Diaz were triple teamed.

What hurt was that we didn’t have our midfield runners or fullbacks underlapping and overlapping to help them.

Couldn’t watch the game. Reading this thread I have no idea how to feel about it either.

Missed the game, but did we really only make three subs?
That’s a bit strange isn’t it?

On the penalty, yes no issues with it being given.

However, I will always say that is a natural position, reason being that when you stretch to block with you leg high, forward and you are off the ground your hands naturally go above your head.

Quadruples, trebles, doubles…a ridiculous discussion to have. As if it’s a disappointment if you don’t win them, because they were being discussed.
People were starting to mention the Q word after we reached the final, and I thought “not again”.
At least this stops it and eases up our game schedule in crucial periods (and I think that’s more important than it sounds, and I think it was not just a coincidence than in both our League title season and our Champions League trophy season we had early FA cup exits, whereas last season we went into the later stages, supposedly going for a quadruple, and that late stage exit by Utd made us collapse).

When we started this season we hoped we would have a smooth transition, rebuild and aim for top 4 and hopefully a trophy, probably not a major one.
We then started so much better than expected, and reached a point where rivals talk about us being the best team in the world, currently.
Our main realistic target these past couple of months became the League, and very recently the League Cup.
In the Champions League we seem to be in a good place, but we will see how far we can go, hopefully far enough to start dreaming about it.
But I’ll be perfectly happy if we win the League this season. Anything else on top of that, that’s a huge and welcome bonus, and I’ll be over the moon even more, but League, League, League.
Let’s beat Everton now, easier said than done… it’s been a rare exception to leave with 3 points from Goodison in the past decade. So I hope we manage that, it’s so important to win our game in hand.

Sneaky bastard inserts himself with the “we” in order to hide from the “I”.

He was shite today, but he wasn’t the only one.

He’s right: the whole team wasn’t good enough.

I agree he didn’t have the luxury of a good no6 in front of him, he lost an experienced partner in Gomez fairly early on then they paired him with a relatively inexperienced mabaya then he had to look after him after he picked up a daft yellow card.

Yes, I agree he improved as the game went on and carried the ball quite well, but early on he was poor and caught dwelling on the ball more than once.
I really rate Quansah but I dont have as much confidence in him as I did last season, especially with the ball at his feet. Right now I’d be using him to give Konate a rest for the last 15-20 minutes rather than as a starter.

Which is basically what’s happening. He’s not going to start unless there’s an injury.
We are light at CB though.

Yup. It’s hard one to work out with Quansah. Feels like he needs a run of games so we can see if his performances last season were just a flash in the pan. But he’s not getting that here and he’s probably now too old/experienced for a loan. Maybe if we got a Konate level option in this summer we could send him to a PL team for a season.

It’s also painfully obvious the gap between Quansah and any of our young lads is cavernous. There’s not a lot you can really get excited about coming through the ranks.

If he’d shit his pants, that explains why he was sat down for a long time refusing to move. We’ve all been there.

Disappointed to see we lost this.

Didnt see it but having taken the league cup seriously it appears we didnt drliver here. That feels sloppy to me but I’m not in a position to really argue either way.

Well that was crap… Never like to see a team so disjointed as we were today, but in the grand scheme of things, not sure we can complain too much about the defeat.
If there was an upside to getting dumped so unceremoniously out of the FA cup today, is knowing that every Gooner fan out there, will have put their head in their hands when the final whistle sounded… :0)
We march on to Woodison and return to form

he wont be here next season. Slot doesnt rate him.
But to be fair to him today he has Cheisa in front of him and he was just as shocking in the 45 I saw. If people wonder why only starts these types of games now you know why. He is miles off starting/playing an important game.
i see him and elliot moaning at each other a lot in 1st half.

i see people moaning the bench shouldve had more quality but i dont agree. If we had gone a few goals up then weve dragged starters on weds down to Plymouth for no reason.

yse we exist to win trophies but today did us a favour - weve won the title once in forever - the title is and always should be prioritised over everything. If were in 5th with no chance of title the fair enough.

Can’t be arsed looking for a silver lining here.Bit hard to find, still reckon a game worth playing is worth winning,or trying to!
Hoped Plymouth would make a game of it,they did that.
I’m old enough to think the FA cup is important, maybe time to look for a rocking chair.

Slot probably sent him in to face the press.

Good call.

Best post of the thread - made me laugh.

Obviously disappointing to go out of the cup but it’s just too much with all the other comps plus fairly thin depth at CB. I was very disappointed with both Harvey and young McConnell while Nyoni doesn’t look good enough. Shame we don’t either have another CB (so Endo could have played in midfield) given that Slot clearly didn’t want to risk Jones or another Midfielder. We will need to strengthen here in the summer.

Chiesa is also a concern as, apart from the last 15 mins when he stuck to the left, he hasn’t looked on the right wavelength all season. Looking like another underwhelming Italian signing.

The facts are we aren’t capable of competing for a quadruple (no team is unless they are doping like Cheaty) as the extra games are killers. Personally I’d always prefer we just concentrate on the PL and Europe and treat the Milk and even FA cups as Slot has done. Brilliant if we go on a run and then we can get serious about winning them, otherwise C’est la vie so long as we are in a title race.
