Post match: PSV v Liverpool (UCL 29/1/25 8pm)

Yeah I thought the same. Obviously he’s only at the start of his journey, but some people were saying he should be coming on before Darwin. He looks a long way off and could do with a loan spell or two.

Elliott was the other one I was disappointed with/for. Thought he’d put in a performance to push himself closer to a starting place. Maybe just a difficult game to grab by the scruff

In the absence of VVD I thought Quansah did well. He won a lot of headers and moved the ball well. Chiesa was was very good, and McConnell was excellent in the first half.

I thought Danns was a bit headless to be honest…chasing stuff he had no chance of getting to.

Overall it really was a dead rubber. Top of the league. If we needed to win this we would have.

I said that after 15mins. Running about like a mad thing and already looked gassed

Not certain this is 100% right mind. My understanding is that 9th/10th will face 23rd/24th and so forth.

Tell you what.

It’s a very favourable side of the draw.

Anyhow won’t do another away match thread. Sticking to home ones now.

Liverpool will play Monaco , Brest , PSG or Benfica in the last 16.

So it aligns with what is above.

it should be the lowest ranked team from the quartet that qualifies; no?

Whatever the circumstances, I hate it when we lose. Like others on here, I thought certain players were disappointing. It looked like Chiesa didn’t trust his teammates, and you could see why. Great to see him get a full match and can’t wait to see him in the first team.

There was a close up near the end of one of their fans in tears. WTF?! Did he think it was a great achievement scraping a win against our reserves? Embarrassing.

I would have been a bit meh if we had lost out on top but I’m fine with that it looked very reserve like and at least certain players showed up who should be showing up such as Chiesa.

Rather do what we did than have gone out there got an injury or two and looking to loan someone in within the next 3 days.

Not a game to make loads of judgements from. Chiesa looked well up for it and showed he has a role to play in this second half of the season. Aside from that everyone else did a job but not a lot to stand out.

See Danns getting a few barbed comments. Thought he was alright but tired quite early in the second half. Didn’t get a lot of service and think it’s tough for a young lad to lead the line with a fairly makeshift team behind him. It’s a shame Nunez was ill because it’s a game I think most had him pencilled in for and Danns could have had a cameo from the bench which is the kind of experience you want to give him.

Ultimately no injuries and a mid week off for most of big guns is all that matters given finishing first or second makes no difference until draws and play off games are done and next opponents are determined.

Doesn’t this mean that, if us and Barca win our games, that we end up playing each other before the final? That must be wrong - or at least not representative of the next round.

I believe thats the case, yes. But we avoid the bottom half teams all the way until the final…including Real Madrid…

That make more sense

I don’t think he made himself any favours with his defending for their second and the mistake for the third.

Otherwise, he was fine but if his lapses invariably end up in the net, he isn’t going to make it at Liverpool. He is talented without a doubt but he has to improve the mental aspect of his game.

Andy Robertson on the new Champions League format: “Two extra games but tonight looked like carnage, the league table was all over the place, so I’m glad our place was settled.”

“All the games on one night created excitement. We know whatever format it was, our aim is always to get to the last 16 and then we see if we can go further.”

“I’m just glad we don’t have a play-off and we’re in the automatic eight. There will always be tough games so lets see who we face once they fight out in the play-offs.” (TNT)
