Never in doubt.
Good run out for players coming back from injury and valuable experience for the kids.
Job done.
Tyler Morton and Harvey Elliott both excellent tonight.
Pretty convincing first half from us despite all the changes. Plenty of positives.
After the 65th minute, we allowed Southampton back into it but got the job done with a much changed side.
Endo performed especially well in a hybrid role.
YNWA.
No mention for Endō?
I think it’s his first game captaining us too, right?
Who is the next impediment to the Prize?
Red card everyday. Glad no VAR.
Poor last 30 but showed enough ticker to get the result and nice to see the young guys stand up.
Job done and lots of players rested and used sparingly, commentators thought we were at full strength by their comments.
He did really well. Think he tired a bit and got targeted in the second half, though.
Endo excellent. Nyoni played it very safe. McConnell looked good.
Endo Man of the match for me. Soaked up punishment throughout the game with no protection from the ref. Work horse performance
Endo did superb today and Chiesa looked exactly like he just had his first 45 minutes after pre season, he was getting a bit better at the end, very unlucky not to score. He just needs more minutes to get match fitness.
Poor second half should have done more with the possession but we got through and with decent number of players rested.
An excellent first half warrants us the win tonight. The second half wasn’t great and could have cost us big time. I feel that the changes at half-time harmed our game considerably, and really gave a lift to the Southampton players. While the balance in our team was great in the first 45 minutes, it wan’t very good anymore after that. Too many players playing out of position (ie. Endo, Morton), too many youngsters or players coming back from injury, and not enough experience and form on the pitch anymore. That was then corrected a bit later with Jota coming on, and we got then a bit better again.
Anyway, the job is done and we move on.
Lots of our boys rested tonight that still have 10kilometres in their legs in readiness for the weekend
“We had some really young lads out there today” - Harvey Elliott (aged 21)
Good to get the win and rest for a few lads. There weren’t too many stand out performances for me but a solid effort from most of them. Gave MOTM to Morton
