Post Match: Southampton v Liverpool (EPL 4/1/21 8pm)

Voted for Mane as MotM because he was the only one that looked remotely like scoring.

We were playing a lot of players out of position and it showed. One or two is OK but when it gets beyond that no-one knows who is going to be where and everything breaks down.

I’m also a bit worried about Trent. He looked not so much off-form as off-colour. His positioning and passing were wayward. In fact, he looked at times like a player with concussion.

The refereeing was crap but we only managed one shot on target all game. Forster looked vulnerable but he was never tested. If we can’t pass the ball into the box without losing possession then the occasional long range shot isn’t such a bad idea.

It’s all odd, though. We scored 7 away from home just before Christmas after a long slog of games. Now, when we get a favourable schedule, it’s as if the team can’t be roused from hibernation.

Just trying to think of a positive. That Danny Ings is good. I wonder where they signed him from?

Minamino has been hugely disappointing but hes never had a run. He scores v Palace and hasnt been seen since.
Something isnt right here. Klopp clearly doesn’t rate or trust him. I feel for the lad he’s confidence must be shot especially living in a foreign land in lockdown.

Ox is finished as a top class midfielder. Needs to be moved on to a Brighton of Sheff United thats how much he has regressed. Last night he just stood there watching the game go by. I was amazed he wasnt yanked at HT but no, we got another 15 minutes of that horrific display.

But as my previous post Minaminos must have zero confidence. Scored in his last game and in last 3 games when a goal or something different is needed he is never brought on. Klopp clearly doesnt rate or trust him so move him on. A bungesliga club would pay £20m for him.

Hendo did better than either of our " natural CBs would have done IMO. Thiago was disappointing and I would have preferred Millie in there, a more solid option. Must agree Trent has been poor for a few games now. His whole demeanor looks wrong, looks miserable and confused. I had hoped Jones would at least get 20 minutes, He has not had a bad game for us, just one mistake that may have cost a goal. We need to do something different to make the players start thinking again instead of drifting around making the same mistakes.

Ah, you were waiting for that “VAR is checking for a potential red card” too. Silly us.

Well, that was shite. No one covered themselves with glory but what has gone wrong with TAA. His passing has gone to pot. There were times last night he couldn’t hit a cows arse with a banjo.

As for soton, their man of the match was andrea[sic] mariner. How walcott’s assault on Millie went unpunished is a sick joke.

I think it’s time Klopp started questioning the point of us actually playing matches. We’re being fucked every single game and those who think it’s down to bad luck or incompetence are either in denial or fucking blind.
So what if the gobshite media go after him, they are always looking for angles to attack the club anyway. I think he knows what’s going on, I thought his reaction to the free-kick given against Williams v WBA was telling, and last night was the first time he’s addressed the subject post-match with his comments about Utd. Still not enough imo, it’s all too soft and apologetic. Tell it like it is, come out and say we know what the fuck is happening.
We’d be 10 points clear of Utd if our games were refereed to the same standards and that’s no exaggeration.

I noticed he was laughing and joking with a Southampton player before the match. During the game that player wrestled Mane to the ground and got away with it but when Mane barged that same player a free kick was given. Maybe we should be nicer to referees.

Jesus fucking Christ, the more you look at it the redder it gets.

And let’s not forget, he’s still an Everton player.

That’s the first time I’ve had a proper look at the Walcott incident. That’s a straight red card, no doubt about it. Theo had obviously spoken to Ancellotti before the game and taken his instructions.
It’s interesting how the linesman, who was very close to the incident, completely ignored it, Milner is extremely lucky he didn’t suffer a serious injury. It wasn’t looked at by VAR? How strange.

This would be given as a high tackle in Rugby. Apparently it’s ok in the Premier League.

Anyone with a clip of the ropey penalty decision? I was stuck trying to get a 6 year old to sleep at the time and missed it.

That was right in front of the linesman as well. It’s getting so bad now and happening in every game. Southampton players only had to go down and Mariner awarded a free kick every time.
There is definitely something going on and for those that laugh at the conspiracy theory, just look closely at the incidents from last nights game. I definitely believe there is some sort of agenda against LFC.

Didn’t the ball drift out of play, so even had Salah not been fouled hes not taking possession of the ball.

Bit like the virgil injury, they’ve ignored the foul as the throw in was given.

Should have been a yellow.

Glad to see Klopp calling Marriner out. Not so much because these fuckers have reached the point where they openly and shamelessly favour whomever we are facing but for the fact that he and the rest of his ilk have essentially declared open season on Liverpool players. Make two-footed lunges against them and you’ll get away with it. Grab them by the neck with impunity. Wrestle them to the ground and you’ll get the foul. It should have been done earlier and much more forcibly.

The above notwithstanding it’s quite clear that the team is decidedly out of sorts, but not because somehow we have forgotten how to play against bus-parking teams, or only because Jota is injured. We are just going through a very rough patch.

Midfielders aren’t attacking the box, a lot of the time they are not even close enough to do so. Nor are they providing much protection. Passing and finishing are diabolical. Compare how crisply and quickly we moved the ball against Mourinho’s bus and how sluggishly we do it now. Just yesterday, Salah could have served a goal on a platter to TAA but his pass was so bad that it allowed a defender to get to it first. Roberston was unmarked at the edge of the 6-yard box. His shot was heading for the corner flag before it was deflected for a corner. Every regular starter apart from Fabinho and Alisson seems to be in a slump with TAA the worst by some distance. Naturally, starting the game again half asleep didn’t help not to mention that it has become an alarming trend.

Klopp himself doesn’t seem to be at his best either. Moving Henderson at the back proved to be a mistake as his influence was missed and we didn’t look more secure with him there instead of Williams or Phillips. Made 2 subs relatively early but never introduced Minamino or even Origi. Instead we resorted to send Alisson for a corner at the end. And his reluctance to use his third substitution in case of injury is so unlike him. While he’s demanding 5 substitutions he’s effectively restrained himself to two because he’s afraid of injuries. That’s no way to manage a football game.

We will get through this and mount a challenge all the way to the end. This team and manager are too good to continue like this but it has to happen now. Whatever leeway we had, it’s gone.

Maybe so, I thought the ball was still in play when Salah was being assaulted. The point is though, match officials are continually ignoring these incidents, when Liverpool players are involved. Mane incident, possible penalty, was ignored. Milner, nearly had his leg broken, ignored and none were checked by VAR.

For those that haven’t seen it, here’s one of Klopps post match interviews. A lot of ground is covered to be fair. The penalty decisions, poor play, TAA losing possession etc.

The line that struck me (As quoted earlier in this thread) is “we’ve already checked it” by the 4th official immediately after the incident. I don’t normally subscribe to conspiracies in refereeing decisions but that sounds really dodgy.

Salah argued with Marriner over it and was told to stop simulating… It’s a joke how badly Mane/Salah get treated, especially when you see the likes of Kane/Zaha etc.

Everything is checked by VAR…as far as I understand it.

The tackle on Milner should/could have been reviewed as a possible red card.

What was the justification for not penalising the Jack Stephens handball? The only reason I saw given is that it wasn’t deliberate. Well I would accept it not being a red card which it would have been if it was deliberate but he threw himself in the way of the ball and his arm was sticking out from his body - I mean if it hadn’t been the ball would have gone in.
