Alright, fair dues, I went a bit far. I understand the element of luck in the 3 deflected goals, but the scoreline was fully deserved. They had massive golden chances that they spurned or that didn’t quite fall their way, so I don’t think it’s fair to say the scoreline flattered them. We were repeatedly carved wide open, and sat off them as they shot. Sure, there’s an element of luck for the deflections, and you can say Adrian wasn’t at fault for any of those three, but even Klopp admits that those deflections mean we didn’t stop the shot or block the shot correctly.
I think two things can be true here - this was an absolutely abject performance that was fully deserved by Villa, and we’ll still be fine this season because we have a fantastic squad. Let’s just flush this shit game and move on.
I’d prepare yourself for several head-scratching results this season, for almost every team. City had one last week against Leicester, United just had one against Spurs, and we’ve had one today. Once we get into November I think we’ll get a better idea of everyone’s level, but on balance, we have the best team in the league and should come out on top.
Few players need to have a look at themselves. Adrian and Gomez in defence where way below the required level.
Didnt help we just kept giving up possession and pressure on the ball was non existent. If we play a line that high and put no pressure on the ball we will have more days like this.
Also have to temper my disappointment with the fact they scored 3 deflected goals and two others looked offside to me. Had a bit of a not our day sorta feel. Everything that could go wrong did and then our lethargic performance just compounded that.
One of my neighbours is a bluenose, who hasn’t spoken to me since we won the league, which suits me fine. But guess who’ll be out tidying his front garden in the morning for hours? I guarantee he’ll be getting a large ‘fuck off’ pill from me.
Ok, I’m going to sign off, I’ve run out of tonic water. I think I’ll take a bottle of scotch to bed to help me to sleep. Then I’ll wake up tomorrow and discover this was just a nightmare, it never actually happened. Goodnight all.
I’m currently in hospital where I’ve been having some really weird dreams. This is another one, isn’t it? And you’re all in it. Amazing!
This has been coming and we deserved to have our bottoms smacked. Ever since the post lockdown return we have been sloppy and complacent, especially in defence. Hopefully, it’ll be the wake up call that some players were in need of.
We need to buy a goalie pronto. Adrian has proven that he can’t be relied upon.
Wake up this morning to a real WTF moment.
Haven’t had a chance to watch any of it yet,so can’t really comment.
Suffice to say Adrian is a concern, especially with Alisson out for 6 weeks or so.
Gomez and Trent were unconscionably bad. Adrian’s HOWLER set the tone for the whole match and LFC were always playing off their back foot after that.
I don’t know if it was the virus slowing the whole team down… I’d demand tests after a SHOCKING performance like that.
Honestly don’t believe in this defence after that performance. WE should INTENTLY be looking at picking up a SECOND choice CB because Gomez looked that TERRIBLE. Whoever he is, He’s NOT the guy we need.
Matip is injured. Fabinho is still questionable as CB. Only Rhys William left. Shouldn’t have sold Lovren and Hoever. We will have to wait until the winter.
Villa deserves the win totally. Although I must say we did not play like we deserve to lose by 5 goals, there is no doubt about the result. Villa is lucky with those deflections but in football, luck is as much luck as much you make it yourself. The way they pushed us back, the way they managed to get the ball out to the front players whenever they turn the ball over mean we are always overwhelmed. The positions they get into to get the shots in, they deserved all the plaudits. Its not an exaggeration that if they had been even more clinical, they would have been in double digits in terms of goals scored.
Like Klopp said, hopefully, we had made all the mistakes we can make, reflect on them and then move on to the next match. I do not think that our players are complacent but definitely there is work to be done on the tactics and strategy and coaching. Maybe the international break is good for the coaching team and Klopp to work on what went wrong and work on it with the players when they are back.
The worst performance probably under Klopp’s era or at least one of the worst and we call it as it is, we deserved nothing. But YNWA, we always come out of turbulence better and stronger.
