Post match: West Ham v Liverpool (EPL 30/11/25 14.05pm)

I don’t take any away win in London lightly, traditionally it’s been ropey for us.

Well done lads!

I think we’d have seen a bit more of Gomez if we weren’t down to the bare bones in central defence. Slot has been keeping him back as a break glass in case of emergency option, no doubt with one eye on his fitness record. Still, he played Gomez today, he did well, and we looked more solid for it.

For the first time in a long time I thought I could see what we were trying to do today. 4231. Isak looked sharper, Wirtz was very good and he was looking to link up with Isak, and we had Cody and Dom to the sides of the three, but not way out wide. They were in the half space and also tracking back, Dom especially, and the right flank looked a lot more solid. We got some width from the fullbacks, though overall it was more compact as Grav and Macca were more disciplined behind the ball.

Something to build on.

Questions moving forward: will we stick with a 4231? Will we see Ekitike and Isak in the same 4231? Will Salah come back into the side? Will Wirtz continue to be trusted as the main man to build this around?

There’s a lot of potential in this.

Thought he offered more going forward than Bradley or Frimpong today. A handful of good crosses today, maybe 3 or 4.

He’s very basic, but he does those basics well and has always been effective in the final third and productive when played there. Kind of like a more athletic Gary Nev.

The main concern is his ability to stay fit while being the only option to come in as a Cab replacement when (not if) needed

The issue with Gomez as we all know is being fit

It’s not about West Ham. It’s about us…

I think WH were probably coached pre match that we would lie down as soon as they attacked us but gave them nothing to bite on and when we didn’t go down with a goal early on we didn’t go gung ho trying desperately to get back level and kept a clean sheet and managed to score first.
Joe plugged a big hole calmly and was excellent going forward got an assist, all of a sudden there was a more balanced Liverpool team.

Yeah Wirtz would still be shit according to him.

Just watched the game, my mention in playing Szob, in jest, many a true word spoken in jest, about Szob taking Mo’s place came to fruition as did my hope for a changed line up, although I wouldn’t have played Ibou, but thankfully he had a good game.

Wirtz was the standout, we need to get him involved and keep him involved, but with good movement around him. He has the class, vision and touch.

My only gripe is not controlling the game better when in front.

But a solid win, solid defensive performance and some solid individual displays.

Just one goal and we sneak in over Manchester United, which would be one good step on the long road of recovery.

Worst thing is…

It was a foul, I like I think he was over zealous at times in blowing but he did it for both teams it just happened they liked to foul more.

Maybe the ref didn’t get the memo.

I thought it was funny that our players were trying to talk him down and avoid getting sent off. I got the impression that the West Ham players were glad to see the back of the dickhead.

Given that he was previously accused of he has probably just landed himself in a whole pile of trouble.

Maybe the West Ham players also had a bet on him being sent off

Edit

Everything needs to go through Wirtz. Theres loads of time the ball can go to him but it dont.
I guess everyone’s just getting to used to playing with him. But hes class. Makes it look so easy.

He’s United-bound in the summer.
