Don’t be silly. You’re commenting on something you clearly missed. It was very obvious on all the replays of the goal. The deflection of Robertson’s head clearly diverts it away from Philips.
Klopp just wanted to give Henderson and Fabinho games there.
If the officials allow it.
People forget that we would still be top if we hadn’t been shafted by the refs in at least three games.
Yes LFC tv showed a replay of the Brighton game it was blatant cheating by the officials aaargh
An enjoyable match to watch, surprising that it was without Sadio at the front, while Bobby did not come on until much later. Shaq and Bog Div did pretty good jobs. BTW, I stepped away and missed the goal from the Hammers, so the summary may not be quite as accurate
Quick impression of the match:
- Not much Ali needed to do, surprising that with the taller Hammers players with the corners/set pieces. Even Robbo blocked the shot for him.
- Back 4 did really well. Hendo anticipated the Hammers’ passes to stop most of the threat, his low but high velocity passes created a few chances. Nat Phillips seemed to grow in confidence each minute he gets to play. More byline crosses from TAA and Robbo. Both did relatively well, together with the midfields to prevent any threatening crosses from the Hammers’ wingers. Robbo goal line header clearance was crucial (Ali probably would have gotten to it, but why take the chance?)
- Milly forward runs into the 6 yard boxes and created good chances for himself! Did not like to be subbed but Love his reaction to the Boss right after Curtis Jones created the goal for Mo.
- Gini had one of his best matches. Held the ball really well, rarely got dispossessed. Scored one of the easiest goal in his career.
- Thiago still seems to be finding his feet. Need to work on his defensive duties.
- Shaq was full of energies with his pressing. Nice forward ball to set up the 2nd goal. However, I thinik that the Boss said that he passed the ball just a bit too early.
- One of the better match from Big Div, probably because he managed to string a few matches under his feet. Had some good passes. One thing that he annoys me is that when he was fouled and gone down, he often stayed down, which led to our boys being short a man.
- You can see that Mo was playing much better vs Spurs, even with the disallowed goal, he was much sharper. Today, things just got clicking again. Wonder 1st goal, and a sublimed control and flick for his second. I thought that the commentators were also talking about how Mo came back and performed his defensive duties to head the ball away from dangerous area.
- The subs of Curtis Jones and Bobby were influential…Both came on and had assists. Ox did not get to give us much of an impression as the playing time was too short when he came on for the injured Big Div.
My 3 picks (a bit difficult, as I have more than 3)
- Mo
- Shaq
- Gini
Big shout out to Hendo, Nat Phillips and Milly.
It seems we are back on track again
It really looked to me like the team were under instruction to prioritise keeping hold of the ball and control the game - avoiding surrendering possession and allowing West Ham the chance to play a quick transition. There were so many times in the first half that the midfield turned down a promising but risky forward pass, electing instead to recycle possession.
My lad was getting frustrated through the first half, and I kept saying calm down, it’s fine, this is the plan - we’ll kill them in the last thirty. Always good to call it right in front of your son.
West Ham always run out of steam in the last 20mins… Especially Antonio…
I’m with you Mascot… the game was set up to be won in the 2nd half
I certainly wont disagree with you on the controlling the game part. That’s the best we’ve done that for some time I thought but it is also out of character not to try for a goal. If that came from Klopp then I’m fine with it.
That said, I was far from impressed with Origi this evening and Salah in particular needed a little while to wake up. When he did it was game over but prior to that I think that while we were certainly controlling the game but didn’t really pose any real threat.
All in I’m really pleased with tonight’s game. The only 2 downers was Origi and not keeping a clean sheet but the win was far more important. I also felt that our second and third goals were like the shackles that had been holding us back of late had been shaken off properly.
When City do that to a side the media salivate how good City were, when we do it it’s because the other team fucked up. We didn’t let them play for the most part, period.
Pleased for Phillips, he’s growing. Big ask to do it week in week out against all types and levels of opposition, but he’s rising to the challenge and I wish him well.
If a grizzly bear mated with a panther, our wonderful keeper would be their son.
Really pleased with the midfield, Milner has dragged us up by the bootstraps into form the past two matches. Gini the Rolls Royce has ignited, and Thiago is driving the car.
Thought Origi showed more desire than for a while, and pleased for Shaqiri that he got that wonderful assist.
Need to see the results over the next few weeks before we can feel we’re going to go all the way with the title challenge, and I still think the PL will roll out a refereeing hit man to derail it at some point, but I’m hopeful we can make City have to work for it, and that we can start to firm up top 4.
Changes in players, changes in tactics but still the same high quality football. Well done Jurgen and all involved. Hope we can keep it up now.
Maybe we need a new CB in case Nat Phillips gets injured
Now just like the last 2 years we are playing one game at a time and see what happens at the end of the season
I counted the number of passes for Gini’s goal, it was about 34 passes.
Kelleher fully concentrated in case he needs to come on at short notice Millie should be lobbing rubber bands at him haha
Diva set me off again.
We usually use Benny Hill’s music when the lads are playing rubbish, but today it is used in a positive and funny way.
Well done lads, it was a tough match against the Hammers, 3 brilliant goals.
MOTM for me is Nat Phillips.
Honestly, where the fuck do you get this shit??
I understand you think the entire footballing world is out to get us, but we’ve just had a great win and your first words in the post-match thread are a moan about some perceived slight from ‘the media’.
Here are links to the BBC and Sky write-ups.
The BBC is overwhelmingly positive about our performance. It does say our first-half was ‘toothless’, but given we had one shot on target, I think that is pretty fair.
The Sky one is less effusive, but still is all about how good we were, rather than how bad our opponent was.
Yeah, was wondering if we shouldn’t have two post match threads - one with var, ref bias, media conspiracies etc, and one without. I know which one I’d read.
That maybe the Sky write up but the narrative in the studio was West Ham failed to perform and should have done better.
