Post match: West Ham v Liverpool (EPL 31/1/21

Yeah, I hinted at that. But we weren’t so good that West Ham couldn’t have done better with the ball.

The game is played by two teams. It would be wrong to say West Ham couldn’t have done better regardless of how we played.

West Ham have definitely played better this season, but what I saw today was the same shite Moyes serves up every time one of his teams comes up against one of the “big boys”. They stay organized, compact, risk-averse, and workmanlike. they try to shithouse some set pieces or scrounge a goal on the break, but they don’t play to their strengths.

Moyes is doing a half decent job with that Hammers side, and they’ll finish in the top 8 or so, which is what he does. Proof that you don’t need trophies to be a winner but he is a winner.

Well saying it and doing it are two different things. If West Ham had tried to be more adventurous, we would have been more direct probably.

I actually thought our passing in the 1st half was quick and incisive and they couldn’t win the ball until it was in the final 3rd and that is where we excel when pressuring them. Our midfield positioning and covering cut out their passing lanes, plus they were looking for that long ball over the top which our defence covered very well.

When teams attack us they can cause us problems … but we cause them more with the space they leave, especially when we click like we did today.

Good game,great result,plenty of pluses,which we needed.
Second convincing win on the trot, seems Mo has found his shooting boots,Phillips very good, only downer for me is Origi, doubt he’ll be here next season.
Now,let’s keep going,Brighton next under the hammer and of course Citeh to bring back to earth.
MOTM Mo,with a mention for Phillips.

There comes a point in your life where that stops being an insult and starts being a compliment!

If you were to believe the fans of other clubs, that is in fact the case …I occasionally look at a Celtic forum and when they lose, red cafe and blue moon, for entertainment. Celtic are being regularly shafted by the masons apparently.

The strange fact is that United and City are being shafted by the very same officials that we are, except of course for City it is much worse because they have UEFA in on the conspiracy too.

Also City fans hate Tyler because he is a Liverpool supporter. United fans hate him because he is a City supporter. We hate him because he is a United supporter.

We did press well. However I agree with your comments.

THIS, is Crook’s supposed write up of Salah’s game yesterday:

Mohamed Salah: With Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino missing for the game at London Stadium, West Ham must have breathed a sigh of relief given that pair’s performance against Spurs in midweek. West Ham only had Mohamed Salah to contend with - but the Egypt international looked in the mood, and so his goals proved. What I couldn’t understand is why West Ham were so reluctant to put centre-back pairing Henderson and rookie Nathaniel Phillips under sustained pressure. It was as if the Hammers seemed to pay for too much respect to Liverpool’s reputation and were unable to take advantage of the champions’ makeshift injury-ravaged team.

Did you know? Mohamed Salah became the first player to score 20+ goals in all competitions in four consecutive seasons for Liverpool since Ian Rush did so six times running from 1981-82 to 1986-87.

Wanker.

Because we didn’t let them?

He is such a twat. Honestly, my nine year old lad understands football better.

When asked about the incident with Milner, Klopp said:

He was not unhappy, it was a little bit my English!

At half-time we changed the offensive formation. Millie was slightly deeper, a double six with Gini and Thiago slightly higher.

We told Millie, because he had his hamstring stiffen up slightly, we told him to be controlled with more passing than running.

But it was clear we would take him off – we just waited until Curtis had a proper warm-up.

Then I saw the last long, long sprint Millie had and I thought we missed the moment and was really, really worried.

Then he came off and said ‘you told me I had to play deeper and now I run less and now you’ve taken me off’ but then he left and came back and said ‘yeah, by the way, good point, good decision!’. All fine.

Millie’s massive grin, after the goal, said it all.

What I loved most about last night and the game against Spurs, is not the result but the way we played. Yes we aren’t at our electrifying best, but there were plenty of sparks.

The lads seemed like they were playing not because it’s their job but because they wanted to. They seemed to be enjoying the time on the pitch.

Good times. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Another good result and well worth our toil. Good to see the lads lifting to the challenge. Another win over Brighton and we’re heading in the right direction.

I was well surprised with this result and performance. I thought West Ham would really fancy their chances but we stopped them by playing the diamond.
I said in the match thread that I thought Phillips would enjoy the battle with Antonio - I think Phillips prefers the battle than a tricky lightweight player.
We stopped West Ham then took our chances. Declan Rice looked fucked at the end. We dragged him all over the pitch.
2 big games coming up - weve struggled against the shite this season and Brighton are up next.

Still banging the old ‘other fan forum’s’ drum I see.

Instead of taking heed of what fucking moron’s on other clubs’ sites say, you know, the same ones who bang on about how shite we are despite being English and world champions, the same ones who still call us LiVARpool despite having the square root of fuck all to back it up with, why don’t you just open your eyes and watch our matches without any of that shit in your head and you might actually see what’s been going on for the past few years?
Do you honestly think Manchester fucking United are hard done to by officials? Seriously? Do you actually read their drivel and think “ooh, they think they’re being fucked over, maybe they have a point”. Same with City, what fucking decisions have gone against them this season? Name some. Celtic? The same club that have won the last 200 fucking domestic competitions? Supporters of these clubs are your yardstick?
I don’t give a toss what any of them say, they’re like Evertonians, bitter, deluded and desperate to cling on to anything to attempt to play down the fact we are better than all of them.
There was a report last week saying Klopp and his team are incensed by officiating in our matches this season and they believe it’s cost us about 8 points. I know who’s point of view I give most credence to.

There’s nothing in my proposal that threatens that.

Well the post was after a post match bottle of Merlot, but in any case it was a compliment.

When our boy protects our goal he reminds me of a grizzy on his back legs protecting his lair, and when he darts to the side to save he’s like a panther.

I like this ‘we were there for the taking narrative’.
Why didn’t West Ham do this? Or that? Blah blah.
The answer has to be, they couldn’t be bothered. Or maybe they took pity on us. Or maybe, just maybe we are a great football team, that has come through a ‘shaky patch’ after long term injuries to key players.

Not sure how you watched it, but the match commentators were banging on about how poor West Ham were more than how good we were.

When we as the better side of the two close an opponent down and stop them playing it’s them underperforming, rather than the natural level of the two sides playing out on the pitch.
