Post match: Wolves v Liverpool (EPL 4/2/23 3pm)

No need to be a shit to fellow reds! With the simpleton thing. (Unless he ran over your cat or there’s some other previous I’m unaware of).

Anyway, yes, Darwin misses chances.

The main chance he had today was on target and a good save by the goalie.
In comparison, Mo floated two chances over the bar and another wide of the post.
Keita scuffed two shots from great positions too.

I’m backing Darwin Nunez to do better than this, in a better Liverpool team.

We are in the doldrums right now, but he will be a key part of the team that will emerge.

I will quote Paisley, to try to give some perspective to Nunez missing chances. Early on, when Ian Rush was missing a lot of chances, he was receiving a lot of criticism. Bob Paisley, with his expert football eye, stood by his man saying,

“Aye, but he does get into some great positions to miss those chances.”

I’m not saying Darwin Nunez will score 346 goals for Liverpool, but I do wish more of our fans had the perspective, and decency, of Sir Bob.

No it isn’t true. Redmen TV and Anfield Wrap get absolute pelters on Twitter for being FSG stooges. They are anything but.

The truth is if you articulate any opinion that contains a hint of nuance and takes a more realistic view of the ownership that isn’t knicker pissing hysteria, you’ll get some fucking teenage bellend calling you a ‘top red’.

Not on this site, thanks very much.

What we need is an easy game against a shit team that we can easily smash 5-0

MONDAY 13TH FEBRUARY

Liverpool v Everton

Well well :grimacing:

We’re going to get battered.

Can you actually see a midfield of Baj Naby and Thiago having the legs or physicality to deal with Onana Doucoure and Iwobi?

Can you see Gomez and Trent not playing like a pair of 5 year olds against Mcneil and DCL?

Lampard version we may have taken a slender win, sadly my optimism over the last 3 hours has gone.

You forgot about let us have it at the back, put a bit of pressure on and wait for the inevitable fuck up.

School boy insults now you sad little man.

They do, but by the same token do you think they would openly criticize the club or ownership given their position? They get access and privileges that create their followers and livelihood. Even if they had negative opinions of the ownership or otherwise they are unlikely to express them strongly.

I presume you’re being tongue-in-cheek, but The Ev will be absolutely relishing playing us next.
We are extremely vulnerable to Dyche ball tactics right now and as far as I’m concerned, we couldn’t be playing them at a worse time.

I didn’t meant to include them as the same price. My English skills not ideal. I know Casemiro was costly but we spend similar on un-proven talent

I’m a subscriber to the Anfield Wrap and I can confirm many of the contributors are pretty scathing of FSG.

What they don’t do is stamp their feet and shout FSG OUT over and over again.

They don’t have privileged access. Because they are a fan channel with a lot of subscribers they get the odd interview here and there.

They made a serious move for Tchoumeni. That couldn’t have been based on sales of players.

The failure there was about priorities. And that’s squarely on Klopp

No, no pace

What are we trying to do at the start of games? what are our patterns of play? why can’t we make simple passes and why is our movement so poor? Also, why on kickoffs, do we just lump it forward?

Midfield is seriously lacking pace and power, we just can’t support the attack and when we do we are powderpuff from the edge of the box. The only one really stepping up is an 18 year old, Thiago is not a box to box midfielder and although Keita does ok he has no legs or pace to burst through or away from his marker and he had a couple of opportunities but his shots are weak.

Our defensive players are making too many mistakes and are not good enough in breaking a press, with the opposition forcing us to play pasees to our fullbacks out wide and then trapping us with the only option of either trying to go back to our CB’s/GK or lump it forward.

Finally our defending, this is the hardest bit because we are making too many individual mistakes and then not being committed or switched on to be in position to cover potential errors, also we are not winning the personal battles enough. Our CB’s are really struggling when being pressed. I also think we need a Left sided centre back that has a good left foot, as both Gomez and VVD are right footed and when a ball is played back to them from the LB under pressure they can’t pick out a good enough pass.

Our forwards just aren’t good enough maintaining possession, as I lost count of how many balls played into their feet just bounced off them. The only threat seems the ball in behind for Nunez to move onto. Also we had several times where Mo and Gakpo got down the line but being on their weaker foot and struggle to pick out a player or pacy cross. This used to happen with overlapping full backs but this is getting rare especially down our right hand side.

Subs, who at the moment do we have that can change a game or create a threat? The only one to get us off our seat is Doak, but he his 16 and not at the right level at the moment.

As for our coaches what are they doing in regards to improving us, especially in possession? Because we cant cope with the press from the opposition. For me the 4 3 3 isn’t working, the 6 is working well with young Stefan but Thiago should be playing alongside him, so maybe we go to 4 2 3 1, especially with the players we have in midfield.

Do we press or not, 1st half we sat off and they controlled the game 2nd half we pressed and caused them problems but without the reward due to powderpuff finishing.

Question is for our management/ coaches is, do we continue with what isn’t working or do we set up a formation for the players we currently have available?

Great summary @Sportbilly1966 I agree with all of it.
The number of times Mo gives the ball away under little or no pressure is unacceptable, particularly when his back is to goal. He can barely complete a simple pass at the moment.
If i didn’t know better I would swear we practice smashing the ball over the crossbar during training.

Although we didn’t score, the second half looked a lot better with the pressing and with the front 3 taking up wider positions at times. Difficult one for the coaches/manager to make a call on regarding which way to play. Whatever the decision, we need it to work quickly as we are in a really bad way.

Not the problem here, been doing that while successful over the years…did it in the champions league final vs Spurs and won a penalty too…
I wish that was our only “problem”.
My main issue is how much time we give them on the ball and just follow and run alongside them, then concede some really outrageous goals and say we’re unlucky…we invite our luck to be honest. We used to be the best pressers, but have fallen from that.

Fair assessment other than that.

It is hard watching but we support through thick and thin. I wished we would stop putting square pegs in round holes an pick a formation that works, before our CB injuries I tjough 3 at the back might work as it would allow better defensive cover whilst releasing our fullbacks to support the attack.
