Post match: Wolves v Liverpool (FAC 17/1/23 7.45pm)

Carvalho and Elliot get shifted around a lot because they’re not good enough in any one position. It’s not about versatility, just a quality issue.

Same was true with Minamino. These technically nice but physically lacking players are hard to carry.

Which seems to be our primary recruitment focus for some bizarre reason.

The Premiership you need to be physically there every game or you will get bullied.

It’s such an obviously bad strategy and we’re paying for it, yet there doesn’t seem to be much appetite to change.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see us linked with Nunes and Neves for months and end up signing Daniel Podence.

I’d even be wary of Neves, he’s technically great and yes looks better than any midfielder we have but does he have the physicality to play the pressing game we should be going back to? Not sure, I think he needs legs around him to be his best.

Caicedo, Kone, Ugarte, Thurman… the list is endless of good players with huge upsides who are physically at the very top end.

Maybe not, but he’s good defensively and definitely not lightweight. Wouldn’t be the worst signing I could think of. Never injured either.

True, I’m all for basically replacing the entire midfield if I’m honest. Thiago included.

Inbetween the joke this is kind of true.

A few players have come here now with little or no injuries and spent most of their time out.

I’ve posted before that the fact that referees allow our opponents to foul our players with impunity plays a significant part in the high injury rates we suffer.
