Post match: Wolves v Liverpool (FAC 17/1/23 7.45pm)

Although we typically play with wing backs.

It was an improvement, but not more than that.

This is the minimum what should be expected of this team.

That said, I would’ve signed for an outcome like this before the game, just to get a win, albeit a pretty tight one, but stand on the pitch like a proper team and do the principles better.

Agreed.
But we’re playing an entirely different brand of football this season, with ageing legs in midfield which cant support the wing back style of play.
We’ve conceded for fun lately so I would suggest that efficient defending is a priority for our right back.
As displayed by the oldest member of our squad last night

Gakpo’s day for those who missed it

Yeah for the first time that I can remember this season we made a pragmatic decision that actually suits our players and held the wing backs deeper. Milner is obviously a better defender than Trent but I think if Trent were told to hang back like this he would also look a significantly better defender than he does currently.

Yep, more or less what I recalled
some nice touches, offered some good movement too
shooting less so. A decent 65-70 mins from him, nothing more nothing less.

1:00 - I didn’t think it was at the time but the more I see it and I know he’s not in “control” of the ball, but isn’t that a fair shout for a pen?

I thought Mariner had a good game last night, did wonder that at the time mind.

I thought Wolves were a bit lucky, if penalty was given I don’t think they’d have too many (valid) complaints.

Guess it evens itself out with their offside goal, no dramas.

Does Babestation still exist? You’ll be telling me next that you can still find dirty mags in the bushes at the park.

As far as i know, Gapko hasn’t played as the main striker much in his career which is what we have asked him to do in the last two games. Don’t believe we bought him to play there. Jota, Firmino and Nunez would all be picked to play no.9 before Gapko if fit. As far as I know Gapko’s best position is LW and I believe he was bought to compete with Diaz. I won’t be judging him until he gets a run of games at LW.

I love how true this actually was back in the day.

This was the position I envisioned when the transfer was made. Gakpo at the back of the diamond, Diaz left wing, Salah right, with Darwin at the tip of the diamond. Gakpo doesn’t have blistering speed like the other three there, but is technically gifted, and could be a nice string puller from that position, IMO. Also has a decent shot, with either foot, from distance.

Well it is if you’re stuck in a time warp.

Agreed but TAA can do that if he’s given thd same instructions as Milner. Not taking anything away from Milner by the way.

I would bet my house that if Milly were caught upfield by a ball over the top then he’d bust a gut to get back and make a challenge.
For all his attacking/creative worth I do find it frustrating when I see Trent jogging back when teams hit us on the counter.

Ummmmm
can’t see the Chelsea match thread
!!! :flushed:

Same issue with Elliot. Both of them being shifted around far too frequently and not being given a run of games in their strongest positions.
