Post match: Wolves v Liverpool (FAC 17/1/23 7.45pm)

If Keita continues playing well and the club offers him an extension and he accepts…some members in this forum are going to explode

Wow, there is marked improvements on the pitch. We scored a goal, scored an offside one, defended well with a clean sheet.

Great job!

Gakpo played a few nice one touch lay offs and flicks trying to play people through. May be more effective with Salah and Nunez running through on other end of those flicks as others have said.

His best play was dropping deeper and linking up play and then he seemed to get lost between dropping and also running behind, with Nunez playing we know who is running in behind!

Hooray! scored an early goal and held on!
We are still better than Everton. :stuck_out_tongue:

Seems only to raise an issue with Kostas regarding knocks (to the back).

Says Nunez should be back training tomorrow or Thursday, seems he isn’t going revert to type if you read between the lines which is good.

Agree, Cavarlho can be even better when played in behind the striker as a 10. He is probably the victim of being versatile enough to play the forward line like Taki.
But, he is one of our very good creative and technical ball playing players at his age. Just needs to be given a run of games and played in his favoured position and not left wing/forward.

I nearly forgot how an active midfield looks like. Passing and movement was a joy to watch. That’s all.

PS… Adama is the toughest looking pussy i’ve seen yet. Built like a brick house and goes down like a straw house

Evidently the only time I’ve seen him play well is in games against the top 6, seen here and when he went Barca and he was just poor against lower teams.

I thought Gapko did ok today.

As the focus of a 451 he was a solid 6.5/10 → not outstanding and not that much of a goal threat but always there and willing to make runs and press.

With time (which he may not have) he could make that work. The real question will be how he plays with a partner or partners in different systems. Will he be able to carve out a niche for himself???

feels good to have the win after the really disappointing display last Saturday.
Hopefully confidence and belief have infected the lads after getting thru’ into the next round

I actually thought this was his best performance, the first one where he looked like he belonged to the team. He worked harder and had some nice touches, although he was ineffective. But definitely a positive showing.

On another note, Keita would have been some player for us. Such a shame that he can’t stay fit. At least there is Bajcetic now to drool over.

A tiny step towards the right direction. I have said it before, results doesn’t bother me much. Yesterday we had the semblance of Liverpool. We were energetic and eager. Keep up the good work, Reds. YNWA.

Klopp has finally found a right back that can actually defend

Show’s it’s not rocket science about one of the reasons for our lack of defensive shape and compactness… Either Milner had different instructions, or he just played better, it was a huge improvement… Similar when Gomez went there.

If Trent can’t sort out his defensive game, he shouldn’t be playing fullback…

It’s easier to defend when you don’t leave the side of the centre back and you have midfielders close by.

There’s no way anyone thinks Milner had the same job as Trent last night. Playing the same position but clearly both Milner and Tsimikas were more protected than TAA and Robertson have been, plus they didn’t have the same attacking expectations.

Obviously.
Primary role of a right back is to defend.
Great to offer something going forward, but having the game intelligence to know when to go and when not to.
A blind man on a galloping horse can see that the space vacated by Trent going forward isn’t being adequately covered.
Collective problem, but being kind to the lad, positional awareness is not Trents best asset…

That’s been demonstrably not true for Liverpool over the past 4 or 5 years. The primary role of our RB, and LB, has been to create chances.

TAA will have been told by Klopp to keep doing what he has been doing and the midfield will cover when he goes forward. For a few years Hendo had that covering job and done it brilliantly, but not anymore.Klopp has the option of putting a more defensive RB in there but 9 times out 10 he doesn’t,that’s the choice he’s made to give us more creativity in attack.
What i’d like to see is Ramsey get an opportunity at RB and play Trent at RM.If both are fit and play to their full potential then i think it could work out really well.
