Post match: Wolves v Liverpool (FAC 17/1/23 7.45pm)

He didn’t have to do much, but what little he did was done well.

Not really, we won but could have conceded first.

By the way my laughing emoji is not meant negatively :+1:t2:

clean sheet , they didnt run behind us , no shots on goal marked defensive improvement compared to the game at anfield. elliot better off on the wing . midfield was balanced but ffs this is wolves its not Madrid . we still need a midfielder or 2 now .

(b) was a clean sheet.

It relates I agree, but I still stand by my comment.
Scoring first, is something we have failed to do in many of our games this season, and so by scoring first goes against the recent trend.

Changes worked alright, played a serviceable game, and Kelleher had little to do.
Liked Ibou and Joe at CB,well worth doing it again.
We actually had a midfield, makes a change from lately.
Stefan is due a start, that lad looking the goods,Thiago had a decent game.
Harvey apart from going quiet in the second half was good, loved his goal.
And Naby had a decent outing, and hopefully isn’t straight into the treatment room.

Excellent 1st half where we knocked it around well and always had options. 2nd half less so where we struggled to keep hold of the ball.
Midfield looked much better than of late, players moving into space and looking to progress the ball instead of the usual sideways and backwards nonsense. Thiago and Bajcetic really good.
Not sure if JK will keep a similar side against Chelsea but hopefully it will be a kick up the arse for some.

Nice to win a game!

Bajcetic looks like he will become a very good player indeed.
Keita teases us, with his full 90 mins, looking good too! (Tempting, but no new contract, sorry!)
Harvey, what a lovely thunder blooter!

We looked better all over the park. Take the best of this side, add Darwin and Diaz back in due course, one or two others too, provided the hunger is there, and all of a sudden it is looking much better. Add some key signings and we are winning the league, and probably the boat race too.

Ok, I’m getting carried away.

Not used to winning!

Yes what I meant was that winning the game, and keeping a clean sheet implies that we score first, by virtue of having scored at least once (to win the game), and not conceded any (clean sheet).

EDIT: Just had it pointed out to me that they were meant to be separate categories, so just ignore me…

And he led the press pretty well forcing them where we wanted them, which hasn’t been happening most of this season

I couldnt help watching him that it was like watching the return of Kevin Stewart. The kid has everything.

On a more serious note, I only got snippets because of work. What was Gapko like through the middle? Obviously it doesn’t like we created a ton of chances, but did he find ways to get himself involved?

Pressed well as part of a front three unit I felt along with Keita who seemed to play at the peak of the midfield 3.

Was ok, to be honest.

We weren’t much of a goal threat at all tbh but that was expected, we focused on the part of our game we needed to which was the compactness our of defensive shape. Just shows how important Salah and Nunez are to the team.

Gakpo was very quiet but pressed well at by times and showed some nice touches here and there except when it led to an attempted shot.

They were tough for Man Utd a few weeks back.

All is good:+1:t2:. It was nice to see a compact performance and some impressive performances from the youngsters. Hopefully, we can build on this Saturday :crossed_fingers:t2:

To be honest, I thought he was a bit disappointing. I wasn’t expecting him to light up the game on his own, but he just looked like he found it all hard work. Looked a bit slow as well, which was worrying.

Early days though.

Gakpo was ineffective again but he worked harder than he did against Brighton which is a positive.

If Nunez is back for Chelsea I’d like to see Gakpo play in the middle of him and Salah, with Gakpo dropping deeper to create space and help the midfield. He might look better with runners off him.

He played like I have seen him do many times, not good, not bad. Often off side, horrible shooting, but on the other hand, he pressed well in the first half.

He tries but to me he looks like he is out of his depth.

I can understand the points you raised.

However, I actually thought there were a lot of positives in his performance.
It appeared to me from tonights game that he was focusing on his press, there were times where it looked like he made the first move and then glanced back, almost for assurance he was doing the right thing.
He had some tidy moments, deft touches and also got his body between the defender/ball quite well. There were a couple of movements which were out of sync with the passer but this should be ironed out with familiarity.
I actually see it as a positive performance, considering our recent form, playing in a new country and with the numerous changes.

I think it is too early to suggest he is out of his depth. I like him, I think he has all the attributes to be successful and I hope he brings them to the table. Shooting was a bit off, mainly down to his decision making but there are positives, for sure.
