Post Mortem: Liverpool v Man Utd (EPL 19/10/25 4.30pm)

That’s what Slobo does when hes pushed to right back.

I thought he was really disappointing for the winner.

Should have done better for first too.

I seem to remember Frimpong putting in two brilliant crosses, from which we should’ve scored.

Alisson saves the first goal.

This! It seems the most logical way forward at the moment. No use to play Macca and Isak who aren’t match fit (at the moment)

The only positive from today other than Wirtz looking good was we are 1 game closer to another International break

I know there is a post mortem going on, but in all honesty I don’t think we were anywhere near as bad as is being described. The xG was 3.2 to 1.3.

We weren’t good either, but this was a much better performance than Palace or Chelsea, and I don’t think Utd were the better team.

Slot has some issues to work out, but I thought there were some signs there

I feel we are mentally too reliant on Salah. And we feel everything needs to move through him. Lot of our players seem to not be playing their natural game, especially the likes of Wirtz, Isak who I think needs to consider themselves equally responsible and get it out of their minds that Salah has to be involved in all our plays somehow.

And Salah had a very simple pass to Wirtz when he missed that chance. So many wrong decisions like we are trying too hard and overthinking on so many fronts.

I agree. On another day, we would’ve scored five but we’re just very poor defensively. Utd got lucky today.

The defensive fragility is a real issue, although Konate had a decent game today.

The one that really worries me is Salah. He looks like he’s dropped off a cliff.

The full back transfers taken as a pair have proven to be baffling pieces of business given how we’ve attempted to set up this season. Poor Kerkez playing as more of a third centre back than a full back, if that was the plan all along then I’m confused as to why we didn’t go for somebody with the profile of Hato or Hincape or why we aren’t just playing Gomez on either side and allowing the other more freedom.

We were bad and we’re overall not in a good place at all. There is enough quality in this side that all season they have been able to craft openings despite the performance not clicking, but that isnt a way for sustained good results. Today we were the same…created enough that Utd couldnt have complained had we won by a couple, but there is absolutely zero indication we are making progress. Maybe about the most positive thing we can say is that Wirtz not starting hasnt made us any better so its likely not a him thing.

We certainly created a lot more today than our last 3 games put together and the overall performance was better, mainly in the 2nd half.

Utd walked away with the 3 points and no doubt their fans will be singing on the trains home tonight about how great they were, in truth they were still the same shite Utd side we’ve seen post Fergie.

Isak, Salah and Gakpo each missed 1 huge chance that would’ve at least seen us walk away with a point. Gakpo avoids criticism for me today because he did get a goal and kept pushing, whilst also having 2 other brilliant efforts he went close with. Salah is becoming more and more of a problem, to the point where it’s costing us…and it’s really hard seeing him struggle this much.

& we need to really find a solution for defending set pieces and quick, otherwise we’ll just end up a sitting duck for other teams to exploit, I don’t want to keep hearing about it…we need to see it.

Frimpong, Chiesa, Jones, Wirtz and Ekitike all to start midweek please.

Ali definitely would have saved the first also. We’ve been lucky to have him bailing us out with similar chances

I am still coming to terms with the fact Ali pulled a hammy in that sequence.

It was the most innocuous moment in football history.

they’ll be back down to earth with a bump next week,

when Brighton take 3 points of them next at OT

The problem appears to both full back positions and I don’t know how we solve it. Frimpong clearly isn’t a right back and Robbo can’t get up and down the pitch, the way he used to. Konate did have a much better game today.

I thought Wirtz was the best player on the pitch when he can on. He should be starting.

I know we weren’t great, but my comment was that I don’t think we were as bad as the post mortem here is suggesting.
