The positives… We didn’t conceed.

Was just thinking that — we need someone linking. Maybe stick Salah and Nunez up top and pull off Diaz (eh, maybe not) and have Bobby in a 10? Bar a couple of decent balls from Trent we’ve been lacking.

problem with that midfield is its leaving us too open

true story

I don’t understand why we’ve played 2 technical midfielders yet never pass to them and instead just hoof it long…

I would probably hook off Carvalho for Arthur to give us a bit control in the midfield.

We’re just not playing very well, at the moment. For all our possession, there’s little threat on their goal, apart from the two shots that hit the woodwork.

Fabio…he keeps limping.

Carvalho is too lightweight in the midfield…

Kick off. First seconds. Ball goes wide left from us, too long. Patterson sees this as an opportunity to run into Diaz off the ball so runs 5 metres forward from where the ball is sailing out to clatter into Diaz.

Good thing from us is that we’re also giving them some. Elbow on Tsimi worth a minimum yellow though. No eye on th e ball, knew exactly what he was doing. Darwin would see straight red with that. Gordon has been going down soft as well.

Everton hit the woodwork, we’ve done it twice. Can’t see Everton keep up this intensity for the whole game, so we’re in a good position. Carvalho limping, so Klopp will have a decision. Think Milner may come on.

Get Arthur on for Carvalho for (hopefully) a bit more control and support for Fabinho.

Midfield options depleted, so we’ve gone very attacking, with both Carvalho and Elliott. Consequently we have given up a lot of control in there.

But we have to remember it’s a derby. Everton are putting a lot into this and playing like men possessed. They can’t keep this up.

Not sure what I’d do second half. If Arthur is ready to play, switch him in for Carvalho to try to get a bit more control?

Nunez, brilliant volley. Diaz brilliant follow up. Very unlucky to not have a goal there.

Joe Gomez has been strong, great play near the end of the half there, showing his pace and strength to beat Gordon.

It’s a lovely, feisty affair. Typical derby. I would like to see a midfield adjustment to get more control, and that will bring our attackers into it more too.

yep

That was a tough first half as expected. Chances for both sides. I thought most of the youngsters looked spritely.

I know Trent looks a shadow of his old self, and channeling his inner Delle Ali, but that was a bloody important track and block at the end of the half, and shows that he has learnt from the couple of similar incidents earlier in the season.

It feels like Salah is not even on the pitch. Is it the lack of delivery to him? Or is it him not running into the right spaces? We need more output from him.

I don’t think any of the forwards have had much of it, and it shows that most of our possession is well outside the box. We need better link up play in this second half.

He needs to be more central however Nunez occupies that space. Does Nunez need to drop slightly deeper?
