Not sure VVD enjoys playing with Konate… he’s a bit raw and unpredictable. It will be interesting to see how he develops…

He played well enough with Lovren, and Ibou is A. young and B. not as much of a meathead as Lovren was/is. Would be curious to see how well he would have done next to Skrtel! But anyway, I think Ibou is a diamond in the rough and VVD probably recognizes that.

Was totally surprised he opted to pass on the 3 v 1 break.
Fun game. Southampton brave/foolish to play three up top. They need more practice on the training ground, as when one runs in offside position, the other two should be slipping the other in. They could’ve got some better play if they did that.
A few players trying to be too cute with the ball, and a few getting dispossessed in bad areas, and a few passing inaccurately, and we 3 up.

Southampton would have scored against a shakier defence today. Their pressing isn’t bad, but how they play really suits us.

I think everyone on the pitch are aware he’s here for the long term and are supporting him all the time. You could see that with all the embraces he was receiving from teammates when he did something less than perfect (and maybe whispering “that was a shit fucking throw in” into his ear after Trent’s throw!). Virg seemed just as supportive.
Even Virg started his career raw.

Makes it look so simple, but most of other keepers wouldn’t even be in the position to save some of those. Excellent game reading and positioning does half his job. World class and underrated because he’s a keeper.

So many defensive mistakes, thank God Ali is amazing today. I hope Matip returns for the Derby.
I don’t think he had the space to shoot as the defender had the angle. Hindsight but he needed to cut it back behind the defender instead of in front.
Lovely first half, some excellent stuff. 3-0 up and it could easily be 5. On the other side of it, they have come through us a bit too much, and they could have had a couple themselves, but Alisson has been there with some good saves when needed.
Not fully sure how to analyze it. Delight at being 3-0 up at half time? That has to be the overriding thought, but strangely, there is some stuff to work on for the team to be optimally tuned. Probably a bit too bah humbug to say that though, under the circumstances.
