Pre and In Match Thread. Liverpool vs AC Milan. CL Group B. Wed 15th Sept 2000hrs

Almost 15 years since we last played them in the CL and both clubs have been through hell and back.

Respect to the AC Milan supporters who share similar values and traditions of historic clubs.

Oh, and Matip in the false #10 role…

From what I know of AC they are a youngish side with some talented lads, we are the better side and we have to make that matter, I’m glad it’s home mind.

Excellent observation! However,

I think you will find all of those “grudges” are based on fact.
Wonderful that we have a forum member to keep us in reality!

Just the content I needed before the game… super excited now for a proper European night at Anfield against a proper European powerhouse!

I make a point of remembering any referee who fucks us over and this bloke has done us twice.
We’ve lost plenty of games in Europe over the years and I’ve no idea who the ref was because it’s been fair and square, same with domestic games.
It’s the dodgy ones/cunts that need remembering.

Unfortunately I can see this being a very frustrating night for us.
Milan will slow the game right down and use shithouse tactics to disrupt us any way they can.
Hopefully the lads can counter it and stay patient.
Can’t see more than 2 goals in the game but hope I’m wrong. As long as we are on the right side of the ledger, I don’t care.

I agree but I’m still quite excited at the prospect of another European night at Anfield and there will be fans present.

Getting behind them will be the key and we’ve come unstuck on numerous occasions against teams that sit deep and make the difficult. I’ll say this now but tactically I dont think we’ve quite figured our way round this problem. But I’m ready to be proven wrong.

I disagree,

I think Milan and there for the taking and if we get an early goal I think the floodgates will open.

3-0 the reds.

Mo x 2

Yes, it’s strange because it’s not exactly a new problem. There doesn’t seem to have been any attempt to find a workable plan B. It would be helpful if our midfielders carried more of a goal threat.

That official LFC video does the job. Goosebumps.

I know and that honestly frustrates me. For me the key lies with TAA and Robertson on this. They need to make that conscious effort to get beyod Mane and Salah and to the bye line. TAA in particular doesn’t seem to do that very often, preferring to cross from 30 yards out.

I suspect it’s a positional restriction to ensure that we maintain some level of defensive shape even in attack but I’m guessing. I can only surmise that Klopp has this in hand somehow.

That said it’s good to see our pressing game back up and running at the moment. I wonder if AC Milan will have come across anything like that?

It was nice to see Fabinho’s goal against Leeds. That kind of scrappy result of a set piece is often the way to get past those ultra defensive teams. It’s not pretty, but it counts the same as a 30 yard screamer or a 20 pass perfectly executed move.
I’d like to see more of that from our midfielders.

Genuinely think this is going to be a stroll in the park for us. Think we’ll be at least 3 goals up by an hour and able to bring off our key players.

TAA KONATE VVD TSIMIKAS

FABINHO

HENDO THIAGO

SALAH MINAMINO MANE

Minamino to starts as I think the last time he did we scored 7
Make Jota angry so when he comes of the bench he’s desperate to prove a point

From the very little I’ve seen from Pioli’s Milan, they haven’t struck me as the typical Italian side playing in Europe away from home. If anything, they play in a similar way to us. Intense, fast and strong. I wouldn’t expect them to be as open as Leeds but neither to park the bus.

One factor that might make the difference is that their current team doesn’t have much CL experience. It’s unlikely but the occassion of playing in front of a full Anfield might prove overwhelming for them.

I hope you’re right, but for some reason I’m not that optimistic…

Just restarted my DAZN subscription. €15 per month now. Bloody Hell, we’d better win…

(*Still much cheaper than Sky and without them sticking bloody betting adverts all over it.)

I‘ve got not so much optimism as you. I wish you‘re right.
