Pre and In Match Thread. Liverpool vs AC Milan. CL Group B. Wed 15th Sept 2000hrs

This is a piss take surely? Klopp will name the real team in a few minutes.

This is what bugs me at the moment. We want to rotate Mane (for example) and our only option is Origi.

This is of course is my standard foot in mouth moment as he will now score the winner

Well we also have Englandā€™s best centre back in our squad. Delighted to see him get a start!

Nothing like an early season Origi selection causing a fan meltdown

If we win Klopp is a genius.

If we lose or draw then it would have been a stupid and unnecessary gamble. Still a genius but just a big stupid lovable one none the less

We canā€™t play everyone everytime. Weā€™ll have some of our players on bench every game, maybe itā€™s nothing to worry about or read too much into it.

He knows what heā€™s doing with the five subs, even if one substitution is forced on him through an injury. It might have been very different without Elliott missing and this is Kloppā€™s pretty clever solution to get a 1 or 2 goal victory over the course of 90 minutes.
1-0 or 1-1 after 60 and then 2-0 or 3-1 at the end, hopefully.

Slight raised eyebrow at the team, but I can sort of see the working.

Virg has come back and is getting stronger with each game, and he looks very close to his imperious best already. But he was out for such a long time, Iā€™m OK if he gets a rest.

I expected Matip to make way, but I agree with Walshy in that if Matip plays tonight, he will probably be rested against Palace at the weekend. Crystal Palace have some pace too, so if it is AC Milan or Crystal Palace for Matip, I understand the thinking.

Nice to see Gomez get the nod to play. Hope to see him up to speed quickly.

Midfield, about as expected, with Elliot out. Keita will hopefully have a chance to shine and do well.

Up front Origi is the strange one. But maybe Klopp is playing a canny game here, and he has a prospective buyer lined up, but they arenā€™t sure, as Big Div has gone off the boil. So Jurgen is playing him, knowing that he likes the CL. Div will score, do well, get in our good books again, only to strengthen the case for a would be suitor to put down the money in January.

Probably too much conspiracy there, but either way, good look Divvy lad. Show us your best stuff and all will be well.

Kessie on their side can play, and it will be interesting to see if he can look decent up against our midfield.

I doubt he would care about Origiā€™s market value. More likely he thinks that Origi ought to be able to do a job, otherwise why on earth are we keeping him around instead of flogging him off to the highest bidder?

ā€¦wait, Gomez and Matip?

Fair enough!!! If thatā€™s what the gaffer wants to do, letā€™s do it

Iā€™m horrifically pissed btw.

I suspect if we had a buyer for Div we would have sold him. And now, since he is here, hopefully he performs and does well. He has form for CL and if he does his job for us, hopefully a few around Europe will notice that too.

Klopp has countered Milanā€™s ploy of selecting their fastest forward by choosing our fastest recovery pace CB. Thiagoā€™s special skills may not even be needed this evening. But ManĆ© and him are there in reserve. Iā€™d love to see them both come on with us 2-0 up.

Pissed as in drunk (the correct meaning) or as in pissed off ?

Funny how weā€™ve gone from our centre back nightmare last year to having the best depth in the world in that position :man_shrugging:t2:

When you say itā€™s a lineup with a lot of flexibility, is that code for it being a lineup weā€™re going to want to make lots of changes to?! In which case, I agreeā€¦itā€™s very flexible.

Iā€™m probably the only one happy to see Origi starting, I just hope itā€™s through the middle, come on red men smash them.

A bard beyond compare. Todays version is sung by a choir of Leonard Cohens in my head.
