What? Elliot is only 20, Darwin is 24 which is huge when it comes to development.
Edit: oh I see Gapko… Sure he’s one month older but also half the price which (fairly or not) goes to his expected development and our expectations when he’s been here 18 months
Isn’t it a bit of a generalization there mate? I mean considering one of them turned out to be an x factor that enabled us to win pretty much everything, and without whom we’d gotten close but without the taste of trophy winning.
I get what you are trying to say, but it just sounds wrong. Maybe phrased as “Dutch players of this latest generation of players tend to be less trophy hungry, with VVD being the obvious exception” would carry your argument much better, but like this it’s hard to agree.
Anyway neither Grav or Gakpo should start this game, that I agree with indeed, and I don’t think there are many here that would disagree with that either.
Maybe VVD isn’t ‘Dutch’ in that sense - his career developed in Scotland and England and I think he largely avoided the traditional development as he was overlooked?
Three points please you red men. Go top and see how others respond.
We are at a stage of the season where a few injuries have piled up so we have to dig deep. Nobody will have any sympathy for us against Burnley, as the resource gap is great and if we play as we should, we have more than enough to overcome some obstacles.
To sustain a title challenge I think we need to be active in the market in January, just to give it a little boost. Who that might be, I wouldn’t know. I can make a case for a defender, midfielder or striker, and I can also see us doing no business. Such is life as a red right now.
Three points at Burnley will be very welcome, however they come. Hopefully with a decent performance and no injuries.
