When we went 2 up, Chelsea conceded the ball to us. We should have carried on [laying counter attack.
Dumb foul from Milner that lead to the Chelsea spell.
well said
Feels so 2016-17.
I don’ understand the MF selection, unless Keita is not fully fit…Worst MF half time performance I’ve ever seen. We are no longer just a counter attacking team.
Shape is absolutely horrible, like we are playing a 4-3-3 version of Hodgson’s 4-4-2, a bank of 3 midfielders often almost in a line. When Chelsea have the ball, the mids are too deep to put pressure on the pass, but not deep enough to pick up the extra runners. When we have the ball, none of the 3 are extending forward consistently (it looks like Henderson is supposed to be doing that), so there is minimal midfield interplay.
Exasperating thing is that Chelsea have been about as suspect defensively, commentators are loving ‘this display’, but it is two teams that should be much better than this.
Don’t like him…sneaky f***ker…
a midfield of milly and hendo has historically never worked well even when they are both playing well
We don’t have a good record in London this season so far and are here again on Thursday
The psychology of this is really interesting. Our mentality is not just something we decide on. It’s also how the other team view you. At our ‘mentality monsters’ beat it was equally that the opposition felt there was no hope.
We’re now getting a reputation as a side you can get at, a side liable to let a lead slip. It’s a long road to get that back.
Anyway. We need to get Keita on. The midfield is a shambles. I don’t often call for a half-time sub, but it’s a mess in there.
Naby and control hmmm.
Crazy thing is how much better we are. Obviously competition/standards are a bit higher but kind of crazy that we have reverted to being manic after ~2 1/2 years of top level performance.
HT 2-2:
The commentators and pundits can fall all over themselves to say how ‘great’ that game is, how ‘frantic’ etc. but I for one absolutely hate this kind of games.
The truth is that it is poor, played at a very low level, with two miserable defences and pace merchants on both sides who speculate on loose balls coming from midfield. There is no semblance of control on both sides, just some kind of ricochet football with haphazard deciding on which side it goes. It is fast, yes, but that doesn’t make a game good.
Then we have those two numpties Taylor and Tierney in charge of refereeing the game and making error after error. God knows what they’ll still invent during that second half. It won’t be in our favour, that’s for sure.
As for us, we had two good moments which lead to the goals. Mané pouncing on a schoolboy error from a Chelsea defender, and Salah displaying his individual quality after a really good ball from Trent. That’s it. The rest was the same kind of trash we witnessed against Tottenham and Leicester. Ineffective and shit to watch. If it was Cheaty playing tonight, they would have made short work of this Chelsea team before the break, and would be comfortably ahead as we speak.
It’s hard to see how we turn this around. They can score at any given moment and we look to have a profound problem in terms of fluidity and coherence in midfield, especially when not having the ball. Maybe Klopp watching this on TV will see what is lacking and address it when he comes back. This is just not good enough.
That’s another poor team we’ll lose points against, because at the moment, we are even worse ourselves.
¨
I would not be too disappointed with the same second half but we score one more than them.
Tyler Morton then? Curtis Jones?
No? Naby it is then.
the thing is, its a very gung ho game and would suit naby in finding spaces and passes something both milly an hendo struggle with
The lead flattered us like Vicomte de Valmont would an aristo virgin
Chelsea got two goals back and are up for it, and right after, Rudiger both arms wrapped around Salah, who manages to lay the ball back (but the good position has gone). Ref sees it, obvious foul, but does nothing.
After the opening 15 mins where we struggled, we dropped Jota back to help deeper. This caused us to get back and ahead in the game.
But it’s that 2 goals lead again.
Sounds like he represents America just fine
that 2nd goal on 2nd review, kehler looked rather short
We had more attempts on target than them.
