Pre Match. Ipswich Town vs Liverpool. PL Match 3. Friday 4th September. 2000 hrs

Week three of the new season, another week for the players to adjust to a new reality. Work harder on the pitch, stop believing in your own hype and play football.
Some glimpses so far, but its going to take a victory to sate the baying hounds.

Anyway.
Allison is in goal.
Szoboszlai at RB, as he is our best choice there at the moment. Jacquet and Virg. Kerkez LB.

Nyoni and Gravenberch, Wirtz ahead of them.

Munoz right, Isak and Barcola on left.

This is a chance to start the new Liverpool, get a win and keep the hounds happy.

PS
Blame @sandsoftime if this goes tits up…

Garbage team, garbage manager, just got pumped by Carrick’s United… surely looking at our first league win of the season?

I’m just hoping we don’t wait until the 60th minute to get a shot in at this time of the season.

I’ve no idea what happened to them second half yesterday , but for the first 45 they looked alright. So we can guarantee that’s the version we’ll see , for ninety minutes , and with the home crowd behind them. Wouldn’t be surprised to see another draw.

Yes, I was positively surprised by their first half at Old Trafford, at least the parts of it I watched. They had a real go from what I could tell, could maybe even have been 2-0 up at some point.

We should beat them, need to get that first win. I’m not surprised we got two draws to start the season, before it kicked off I was thinking 8-10 points from the five games before the international break would be ok. Bournemouth away will be tricky, so we should win the next two.

Just need the ref to award us a goal when Virg grabs the ball out of the air with his hands and shoots

I’m super relaxed about that one, and indeed about the whole season. Just enjoying to watch what is to come, and how the lads will progressively adapt to Iraola’s tactics.

In fact, I hold no expectations at all, except that it will likely be a mixed bag again. But I’m very much looking forward to watch this. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I’m sure that Iraola and his team will know the formation, tactics and personnel to see us through this game.

Allowing the goal because shot was off target is one of the most batshit rule loopholes I’ve ever heard.

After getting whacked by Man Utd they will be fighting hard to keep this one tight. We really still should have too much, but I wouldn’t assume it will be a walkover. They have a long slog to try to stay in the Prem and losing big, again, could see heads drop, so I expect some sort of resistance from them.

I can’t wait to see what Barcola does. Munoz was looking to make things happen too, so I expect that will be the wingers. The midfield is the conundrum, as it isn’t tight enough. Arguably Szobo can move to right back so we are stronger there, and he can still do most of his good stuff from that position. If he can do it with a positive attitude, and not feel like it’s a demotion, that will be key.

Then it will be two from three with Grav, Macca and Nyoni. Personally I’d like to see the young lad get his chance to show us what he can do. It would be a big call from Iraola.

We don’t know yet what other signings we might make before the window closes, but surely we will sign a right winger and a midfielder!

On another note, how close is Leoni to fitness? I’m wondering if we will see him as the season progresses, as he might start to look like a VVD replacement for a future alongside Jacquet?

Confidence is high, with QS aka TAN Saul responding to the calling!
Cheers mate, no fear! You got this!

I’d still start Frimpong, he was ok against Newcastle. It has to be ‘drilled’ into him what is expected of him. I say this because the season is long, Szoboszlai won’t be happy back there, we need to be settled hoping either a RB is brought in or one gets back to fitness.
Also Szoboszlai needs to get into his new midfield role, whatever that is or is going to be.
I was disappointed with Frimpong at the weekend however don’t think knee jerk reactions are what Iraola should be doing. He should have a plan and should stick to it so the lads can see and feel some stability coming back.
Of course fantasy football is great fun and perhaps a fantasy lineup thread could be started?

Sit deep and wait for us to give away counter chances. It works every time, no matter how shit the opponent is.

I just want us to start playing like a team again. Defend as one and attack as one with intensity and compactness.

Everything would look much better then.

Salah, and Jota scored in our 0-2 win when these two teams met the last time at Ipswich in a PL game.

id go even further and say Frimpong was no where near as bad as everyone wants to make out.
