Never really took to O’Neil as a player but ever since he became a manager I’ve had a change of opinion. top bloke.

I would have liked to have seen Nyoni start, but I understand the thinking to try to get a better tune out of the more senior pros in midfield. If Macca and Szobo can work it out, and play to what Iraola wants, that could help give a platform.
Grav appears to be the third wheel at the moment, and it will be interesting to see how it unfolds. Nyoni’s youth means he is easier to bench, and Iraola will presumably want to keep his senior players sweet.
Still, that can’t last forever, because if they don’t improve in that midfield, Nyoni will be looked at to see if he can do what Iraola wants.

Not really. He’s just turned 19 and the coach sees much more of him than us. I’m sure he’ll get plenty of minutes this season

Araujo is fantastic in the air so not sure that route will work now which is good.

I don´t think many managers would have said they were tempted to start him and would be more tight lipped.
On the flip side, is this dropping players game to game going to help their confidence?
Hopefully puts a rocket up them. Slot was far too reluctant to drop players

It seems we are returning to the approach we saw under Klopp: protecting players and taking them out of the spotlight when external criticism becomes too intense. Rebuilding confidence through individual training makes more sense. Besides, he had already announced plans to test out midfield combinations. I’m curious to see how it goes.

He is a good player to come on and to play progressive passes especially when the opposition start to tire, would have still liked to see him start.
