Jones has to start this one - he got pelters for his comments the other day but backed them up last night. Give him a run in the side, we need a bit of extra techical quality.
Gravenberch has to stop taking 10 touches before passing it sideways. His use of the ball when he’s not allowed to spin a player is sunday league stuff. Miles off the level required at the moment.
Everyone going on about Salah whilst Gakpo starts every game is really something. Another comical 45 from him last night, ruined a handful of attacks again. Hilariously bad.
Did I imagine Slot saying Ekitike can play on the left? Please, give it a go.
These are shite, another game we should be winning.
Isak, Gakpo and MacAllister can all get to fuck.
Endo to start and offer some protection to the back 4. Maybe in a diamond with Grav and Dom as the 2 and Wirtz at the point.
Ekiteke and Chiesa up top.
None of this will happen of course so I’m hoping the quick turnaround will suit us better and Leeds will leave us plenty of space to exploit as they pour forward.
Literally anything can happen in this one.
Yeah, I know the idea of Slot starting a bloke who sits on the bench for 90 minutes every game is hilarious. I mean, who would he replace Endo with anyway? Mighty Red might be an option.
By the way, you’re take on Chiesa last night was embarassing. Like giving Konate a 40 yard run on goal and criticising him for not finishing it like Haaland or Mbappe.
I cannot understand why Chiesa is not given a chance to start, or what Slot’s fascination with Gakpo is. Just give Chiesa a chance to start in five matches. It cannot be because things are going so well and Gakpo is the weekly star player.
Endo is another one like Chiesa. His reputation grows in his absence and people end up crying ‘why doesn’t Slot ever play him’ and then he gets on the pitch, and you go ‘Oh yeah. That’s why.’
Because he’s expected to play like prime Fabinho when he gets 5 minutes at the arse end of a game every 3 weeks or thrown into a team of kids and plodders every now and again.
His treatment by Sloth has been fucking shameful but he’s not on his own there.
I’m sorry, but I have to get something off my chest…
You’re very stuck in your opinion, but obviously not everyone here shares it. Repeating it ad nauseam won’t change anything. It just gets annoying eventually, and people stop reading because those with a different opinion feel ignored. Perhaps there’s a middle ground, not just black and white? Doesn’t everyone here have the right to feel differently? This whole argument is just irritating and pointless.
Edit
I’m sorry, but the situation is already depressing enough, and this constant arguing isn’t making it any better. It’s really awful here right now.
I appreciate your efforts to mediate, but this is the kind of thing that really winds me up. I am absolutely not stuck in my opinion. I would describe my opinion of Slot as ‘in flux’. I hope he can turn it round, but I don’t know if he can. There are some things about him that make me think he can do it. And there are some that make me think he isn’t going make it. That’s what I want to talk about. But as soon as you try and talk about any of the stuff that surrounds Slot, what has actually gone wrong, it feels like you get rocks thrown at you - you are looking for excuses, accepting mediocrity, tolerating poor performance
Most of the people I am arguing with have nailed their colours to the mast with Slot, and there is nothing he could do now that will change their mind. That is a fixed opinion.
Ultimately Slot is a bloke trying to do the best he can. He is not deliberately failing in his job. He might end up getting sacked, in which case attention will turn to Hughes and Edwards and they had better have something up their sleeve.
Whatever happens with him, we don’t have any agency in it. We can’t control it. We have to find some interest and enjoyment in this hobby
Well said. I think this season was likely to be one of transition with new players coming in and the old guard being phased out. It hadn’t gone smoothly, especially with the unfortunate death of Jota and long term injuries. Additionally Salah and VD have peaked, Konate is fragile and Macca off his best I’m sure Slot can see this as well as we can.
There are some hints of a brighter future, with Wirtz and Isak, but it won’t happen overnight. Ditching Slot now would offer instant hope to some, but runs the risk of starting a Utd style merry go round of managers. Like you, I am in two minds about Slot, but feel that he has to be given at least to the end of the season to show significant improvement. Of course if moral and form implode this may not be possible, but we’re not there currently.
There it is again, I didn’t reply to a post about Slot, but to one where you wrote about Endo and Chiesa. Sigh. It all seems to be getting mixed up, which it shouldn’t be. But that’s what happens when you’re active and arguing in too many threads at once.
As far as Slot is concerned, we’re not that far apart. Regarding the other issue, a little more leeway might be helpful.
Someone was saying they didn’t want us to win. I don’t get that. How can you support a team hoping they’ll lose/draw. If we beat Leeds that’s 3 games unbeaten, possibly 4th in the table, and small steps towards recovery
