Pre-match: Leeds v Liverpool, Monday 17th April, 20:00

Steady performance so far. Not happy with all the playing sideways stuff, but those goals have forced Leeds to open up a bit.

A clean sheet would make me very happy.

You are all over the place, in a thread, maybe this one, you said you were more interested in the performance, now it is the result make your mind up.

HT 0-2:

Can’t say that our lads have been super-dominant or brilliant so far. But they have largely kept Leeds off our goal, and took the two chances they created for themselves, pouncing on errors from a Leeds player on both occasions.

So far, they have made the job. Fingers crossed that they can go on and pocket the three points tonight!

Martin Tyler and Jim Beglin were crowing about how intimidating Elland Road was earlier lol

I think they’ve kicked off three times so that’s at least three.

Gakpo just did it, came deeper, could have turned but pinged it straight back to the passer. Firmino would have turned and eaten up the pitch putting us on the front foot.

For me personally yes it’s more about the performances now.

For the team that’s probably a little different.

If the 3 points comes with a good performance that’s great, I’m still more interested in the performance.

Possibly but our players aren’t looking for that pass it is the usual, where we play around the outsides

The pass isn’t on, there’s no movement. Gakpo and Henderson aren’t showing for the ball at all.

HT 0-2

Leeds with two banks of four making it difficult at the start. Patience needed, and that’s what we did. Leeds were confined to shooting from far.

We tweaked our press, with it mostly coming into play once losing the ball in midfield rather than from further up. This enabled our midfield to actually stay in position rather than the previous games where we would press from the front.

Trent involved in the first goal for the Cody tap in, and then Jota (who has misplaced a few balls) slipped in Salah for a first time shot on his left foot.

He’s back from a long term injury so it takes time. He needs to show that it’s not permanent before the end of the season.

Hopefully something that gets worked on over pre-season. Gakpo has changed his role from being a winger at PSV, as well as the classic “it takes six months to learn Klopp’s system” excuse/reason.

I think he’s got a lot of talent but he’s clearly not the finished article either.

A lot of fans won’t want to admit it, but even if winning every game doesn’t take us to CL, Europa League still makes a big financial difference to not being in anything. Also - fuck it, I want us to win any trophy we can.

Can Leeds be this poor second half, let’s hope so.

is what I complained about 18mo ago. we used to press into the opponent’s 18yd box and it opened up too much space behind the press. compress the pitch and let them play into the press.

work smarter not harder.

Decent half. Make it better.

That finish from Salah is dirty, much harder when you see it from behind the goal.

It has been as I have been looking at our progression with possible passes, but you have to be brave with the pass and trust the player, maybe players trust Bobby more which is understandable and thats why I said maybe

Some of you need to get a fucking grip, y’know.

That was a good away from home first half. Controlled possession, looked after the ball and quietened the crowd. Took our chances when they came. Good stuff.

A few negatives.

  • Fabinho looks a yard off. Painfully so.

  • Jota had an uneven game. Looked lacking in confidence but then grabs an assist.

  • Jordan. Love him to bits, but I wish his first instinct wasn’t to pop a safe ball back to his defence. Even when there is a forward pass on.

Yep, it’s killing our build up play, along with the poor passing and movement.

Thankfully Leeds remembered who they are eventually.
