Pre Match - Leicester v Liverpool - 20th April 2025 (Away) - 4.30pm - PL Match Day 33

I’ll take it on face value that this isn’t a rhetorical question (I was curious about the answer anyway).

4 times (1980-81 – League Cup and European Cup; 1983-84 – League title, League Cup, European Cup; 2000-01 – FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Cup; 2021-22 – FA Cup and League Cup)

7 times.

It might help with freshness, but I’m not sure it helps with nerves.

Ultimately I think it’s really hard to find any kind of criticism of Slot’s performance, given where we are. ‘Yeah, but we’re thirteen points clear with six games to go’ is a pretty unassailable counter argument to any criticism.

Yeah? Well I was assured we lost the title when we lost against Fulham so…

Doesn’t mean that everything is perfect, though.

Nothing ever is, and Slot himself will be striving to improve next season.

It’s actually ten times that we’ve won more that one trophy in a season (73, 76, 77, 81, 82, 83, 84, 86, 01 and 22)

On seven occasions we’ve added another trophy to a league win. (73, 76, 77, 82, 83, 84, 86)

We’ve won three trebles in our history (81, 84, 01 - only 84 involved a league title)

The point is that double seasons are extremely rare, and even rarer if you expect on of them to be a league title.

So comments like we should have done better in the cups do grate on me a little. We’re going to win the league title. They don’t come around very often, without getting greedy and wanting domestics cups as well.

I know what I saw against Man United. A petulant, sullen, couldn’t give a fuck performance.
I’d already gone off him massively by then anyway. Said time and time again he was a sub-standard RB. Said I’d rather have Bradley there. Going back further I told my lad Nico Williams was a better RB. I stand by all those things.
TAA is a fantastic, gifted footballer but he’s become a liability as time’s gone on, probably beleiving all the smoke that’s been blown up his arse by dickheads to the point he thinks he’s going to win a Ballon D’or.
So please, don’t try and gaslight me, I’m pretty convinced by what I’ve seen.

Not sure how I’m gaslighting you.

I’m pointing out that those are not factual, objective statements. Those are your interpretations of your observations, which are valid, and no doubt sincere. You may not remember incorrectly of what you’ve thought and believed, but that does not mean that Alexander-Arnold doesn’t want to stay.

It simply means that’s what you believe about what you’ve seen from him.

If you believe Williams is a better right-back though… It still wouldn’t change the fact that it’s your belief, but I think most on here would laugh at you about that.

I think one of the things that has to be on the agenda for next season is a squad with 2-3 more players that Slot wants to use.

But saying, in hindsight, that Slot should have used Elliot, Chiesa, Endo and Quansah more this season, is a bit of a daft argument. Slot has stuck to his core group and (almost) won a very tough league.

Maybe he rotates more with those lads, and a few of those wins turn into draws and a couple of the draws turn into defeats. Suddenly it’s a much tighter end to the season, and Arsenal are in the mix for a sprint to the line.

Yes, they look leggy now, but they only need to pick up six points from eighteen available.

The natural counter to that being given that they are rare, more should have been made of the advantageous position we were in with being so far ahead in the league.

I’m not sure that’s the case, although the counter-argument here would be that the club is obviously tracking their performance metrics, because I remember Arne alluding to it when discussing Szoboszlai a couple of games ago, that he wasn’t actually running less than he used to, despite what it seems.

I don’t think anyone’s arguing for Quansah getting more minutes, but I think for the others, Chiesa especially, we don’t significantly reduce our probability of winning the game if we take Salah off when we already have a lead, to give Chiesa a few minutes. In fact, Arne has done exactly that with Elliott quite a few times.

I do think there is an argument that Szoboszlai has been less effective (although I would love to see the metrics that the club uses to track his physical fitness), and Elliott could do a good job there, but it’s a hard balancing argument.

It’s nice to think and argue about, but saying categorically it was a mistake or not is something that is beyond anyone to argue. Even Arne acknowledged in a recent press conference that he should have used the trio a little more.

Maybe. Maybe not. It’s pure speculation, either way.

What isn’t speculation is that the players have looked knackered for the last month or so. Let’s hope that Arne bolsters the squad with players he will actually use next season.

Yes, but it’s also not speculation that we’re thirteen points clear with six games left.

We did get to a final however played rather poorly. We certainly could have done better.

Any season when there is a league title is a (highly) successful one. It’s the most important trophy, the bread and butter.

Of course, there are levels how good or bad you can do in other competitions as well. We’re one of the biggest clubs there is, we’re not Leicester.

Open for discussion. We performed brilliantly in the first part of a new CL format and went out on penalties against one of the best performing sides in Europe. It’s also true that going our early to the Championship’s bottom side in the FA Cup and our Wembley performance was disappointing.

But all that won’t tarnish our celebrations in May, and in my opinion how this season will be remembered.

Another topic is how our rivals (not to go too general by saying the whole outside footballing public) at us in terms of going into next season. It’s everyone’s right to think just how good we are as champions. It’s also our right and we should only focus on ourselves to compete again next season and try to defend that title. With possibly greater competition. We’ll see.

At the start of the season I was hoping for a top four finish and success in a cup comp.

However, this changed leading up to Christmas, as with our lead at the top, I then only had eyes for the Premier league and didn’t want us to take our eyes off the biggest prize.

This is it for me. I want for us/the team to be able to have a moment. Would be nice for one of the players to have “scored the goal that confirmed the title”.

The question of timing of that too. What is better - to get a guard of honour out of Arsenal, or to play them knowing a win confirms the title?

What a luxury to be able to give it this kind of consideration.

The other big thing for me this season is that we don’t confirm the title and drop off. I want Slot to essentially turn it into a “the clock starts again” with the team - make them play for their futures.

To be fair I would try and screw Everton over if I reffed them.

Other than the Newcastle final game i don’t understand this narrative we have looked knackered for a month.

Sian Massey was the one. Seem to remember Keys and Gray were fired from Sky after remarks about her during one of our games.
