Pre-match | Liverpool FC V Man Utd | EPL - 19/10/2025 - 4:30pm

I share your view too…what is actually going on at the club???

Is it a tactical issue at play here???

It’s a combination of tactics and players not gelling. Too many changes in one transfer windows doesn’t always work out unfortunately. Just hope that slot figures it out quickly as we have more than enough quality on the pitch and bench.

Reminds me of the last time we won the title.

Makes zero sense mind as there are only a few players from that era.

Man Utd have some decent players and they will be hoping to cause us a few problems. We have much more quality, so in all likelihood we will get the win, but because we haven’t clicked yet there is legitimate cause for concern. Two league losses on the spin rankles, and we need to put it right.

What sort of team will Slot play? How injured are Gravenberch and Konate? Precautionary, or something real going on?

I would love to see things go well for Wirtz. He has been thereabouts and has done some good things, but one of these days it is going to click between him and his teammates, and when it does, someone is going to take a beating.

This Sunday seems as good a time as any for it to happen. COYR.

PS - I have not seen @Commando post in this prematch thread yet. :slightly_frowning_face:

I hope it’s just timing, and he isn’t swerving it after someone spoke a little out of turn last time. Commando is part of the fabric of this place, much loved, and if you do happen to read this post, we want to see you my friend!

Little fact…

Since joining LFC, Salah has more yellow cards celebrating goals v Man U at Anfield than Man U have goals at Anfield.

Beautiful words.
How could they go ignored

I’m sure that Arne and his team WILL know the personnel, formation and tactics to see us through this game. COYR YNWA :+1:

Slots presser:

  • Gravenberch completely fit. Ibou training today. Ali will not play.
  • We aren’t creating as many chances but still creating a lot. We have conceded far too many, particularly from set pieces. Conceding too many crosses from open play. Teams are facing us differently this season - lots of long balls.
  • Question about Mo’s form. Players are giving their all. We need a reaction from all players after 3 losses.
  • Slot knows how special this game is. Need to be at our best and United have better start than results suggest.
  • Playing style of opponents have affected us, We haven’t scored from set pieces.
  • Isak fitness - he has had his effective preseason now. Close to fitness level. Can now judge him better.
  • Effect on confidence of losing 3 games? Lost by close margins. We are more creative and players are resilient. Hoping for creative spark and support from fans.
  • (didn’t hear question) Team needs to do better. Need to increase gap between us and other teams.
  • Mac Allister - Not ideal as he is still coming back from injury. Will get to expected level.
  • Consistency vs player freshness. Impossible to play some positions with same players every game. Rotation is possible with current players.
  • Question about Mo in Chelsea game? Balance between wingers and full backs.

TLDR: Grav fit, Ibou training, Ali crocked.

Edit - I’ll put the BBC summary on later as I struggled a bit with this. Nice to hear Arne’s Dutch pronunciations. “Gravenberch” is not for amateurs!

Strange. Mac played brilliantly for Argentina, no sign of injury or low fitness levels.

He was referring to his mixed performances for so far this season. He said that he expected him to get to full fitness. I’m still not exactly sure what the problem was with him. He was just rested entirely after we wrapped up the title last year. Was it an elective surgery thing?

BBC Summary as promised:

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

  • Ryan Gravenberch is “completely fit” and Ibrahima Konate is expected to train today.
  • However, goalkeeper Alisson Becker has not yet returned to group training so “will not play this weekend or next week” against Brentford.
  • Alexander Isak played twice for Sweden during the break and is “close to the fitness level he should be”. Slot said Liverpool can “judge him in a fair way from now on”.
  • On the Reds form so far this season: “Results don’t lie, so if you lose three in a row then you have to do better. We have to react, but we have to give the same reaction if we win three times in a row. We need to do what we usually do but hope for that spark of one or two per cent more.”
  • He broke down the key differences compared with last season: “We don’t create as many chances as we did [last term], but from open play we still create the most chances and have the most shots on target. We’ve conceded too many goals.”
  • He said “there should always be a reaction” to three defeats, especially “when you wear a Liverpool shirt,” but he “cannot blame the players because they go all in” [for every game].
  • On their defensive struggles: “From open play, we are conceding too may crosses, so that is one thing we have to address and do better. Teams are facing us differently to last season.”
  • On facing Manchester United: “I look forward to every single Premier League game, but maybe even more towards this one because I know how special of a game it is. It’s the game being watched the most all over the world.”
  • He said they “have to be at their best” because in his opinion United “have had a better start to the season than the league table is showing.”

Hopefully we play Puerto Rico level type teams then Macallister will be fine… Same goes Salah.

Macca and Mo should be dropped. Any two or three of Chiesa, Cody, Hugo and Alex are all more deserving of starting while Curtis, Dom, Grav and Flo are much better options in midfield right now.

By your own admission, they should both be fine for Sunday then!!!

Listening to Slot’s presser - he responded to a question about Cucurella’s comments by basically saying that no one would complain if Mo took advantage of his positioning to score. Doesn’t sound like he’s going to expect Mo to track back more often, but I suspect that he wouldn’t say so in a pregame press conference even if he was making adjustments anyway.

Slot spent a lot of time defending our chance creation in open play. Seems like he’s expecting that it’ll all balance out when we convert the chances before us. He conceded that we were too open defensively, especially with respect to crosses, but didn’t really discuss how he planned to address that. Again, keeping his cards close to the vest.

A lot of his approach is projecting calm and confidence to the press. But I suspect, quite strongly, that Slot spent the last two weeks obsessively evaluating everything strategically. I do not expect wholesale changes. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a few tweaks.

He isn’t going to be able to have tweaked much considering the vast majority of the really key players have been away on international duty. Its not like they have had 2 weeks to work on things.

You don’t need two weeks to work on tweaks to strategy. You act as if Slot hasn’t made tweaks at halftime of matches. If he wanted to make adjustments (that aren’t structural, like a new formation or something), he wouldn’t need more than a session or two to lay the foundation.
