Great to finally get a clean sheet and seeing van Dijk playing like himself. Other than that, it wasn’t pretty. Some really nice counter - pressing which yielded quite a lot of promising situations; Unfortunately, the final pass was diabolical throughout.
Not much else to be happy about. Take the three points and move on.
Fulham are a tidy outfit. Silva doing a very good job, but he is a very good manager.
Apart from the peno, before and after we didn’t really look like scoring or create anything clear cut. Alisson pulled off 2 cracking saves, it’s why he’s the best in the business.
So to win despite being restricted to virtually no clear cut chances is very positive and for Fulham, I am interested to see how they get on in their 2nd season in the Prem under Silva.
Our final ball was terrible all night.
Nunez looks way off the pace. Hes general control and passing is shocking but then he can score goals like the flick against Real - you never know what you are gonna get with him - genius or sunday league and I think thats why hes on bench latley.
He was very erratic last night again. When we switched formation when he and Jota came on the ball didn’t stick up top at all and just came right back at us. But for me at least, I’ve seen enough of Nunez to believe he’ll continue to grow and improve and when he does he’s gonna be a handful.
TAA did very well last night and defensively he was really good I thought, the covering for him at times wasn’t good enough.
My one complaint with TAA is he is doing what Gerrard did a lot and it bugged me then too, he’s trying the killer pass (Hollywood pass) too quickly and too often and it’s just giving away possession too easily.
He’s a handful alright but his control and passing were awful at times last night. Gakpo is light years ahead in that central position. I’m glad we have Nunez but still a lot of work (both for him and the coaches) to work out his place in the team as a starter
Only got to see the highlights and it sounds like that was for the best.
I’m amazed that there’s any controversy around the penalty. Clear cut, stone wall, all the cliches. If that hadn’t been given I’d be fuming and yet everyone who isn’t a liverpool fan thinks it’s a dive.
Really starting to worry about Nunez. He just doesn’t seem to fit and we’ve looked better with pretty much any of the options we have through the middle or wide left than we do with him in there.
Alisson has made 100 saves in the 2022/23 Premier League season, the first time he’s reached triple figures in a single campaign since joining Liverpool
Agree that we look better without him.
Trent was frustrated with him last night as he didnt read any passes, touch was poor etc
That dummy where he dummied himself was pretty special.
Klopp mentioned the language being a problem but he has had nearly a year to learn what he needs for on the pitch.
For all the hand wringing about getting Nunez into the CF position, I think he’s simply better from the wing. At least he is in the system we play.
When he was at Benfica he killed us with his work on the flanks, then at the start of the season he was a wrecking ball from the left. Putting him at CF, especially against a deep defensive line like Fulham really takes away what he is good at.
Salah won’t be here forever, and honestly he’s been showing signs of slowing down for a while, and I expect that Diaz or Nunez will have to learn how to play on the right.
Gakpo is a perfect fit for CF. Our goalscorers under Klopp always play in the wide roles.
Is this not his first job since Everton? Being in the bat shit world at Watford and Everton I think he did well. The Everton performance at Anfield when Origi got the late winner is the last time I remember an Everton team coming to Anfield and actually trying to play football and not kick lumps out of us. In fact it’s probably the only time I can think of without tasking Det. Google to go through the fixtures. They could have won that match on a different day and they played some good stuff.
Ive never understood the angst over it. It very clearly fits his strengths better than playing centrally, and it doesnt remotely limit his ability to get into good goal scoring positions. If anything, starting from that position a little further away from the chaos of the center and being allowed to face goal more often seems to allow him to see those goal scoring opportunities clearer.
But even with all the frustration over the performance last night, one of the things he has going for him is he works hard. Forwards who play like that give themselves another way to work their way into a game when things arent going well with the ball. And that is exactly where our only goal came from. Jota is currently on a good run but he was going through something similar a few weeks ago. Every touch was a give away and then he robbed an opponent just inside out half and create a goal out of nothing (I think that was against Leeds)…and that kick started his run of form. I’ll worry about Nunez only once he stops running and trying to work his way into a game.
This is also a media issue. Managers are not good faith actors. They have an incentive to push a narrative that suits them regardless of how it matches reality and the media gives them a platform to do that and pretends their comments should be taken as credible.
