So… bomb one of the new guys right in? It’ll be Henderson and someone. My guess is Phillips though. Might be Phillips last chance before Kabak or Davies steps in. Based on Klopp interviews, it’ll probably be Kabak eventually.
Midfield I’m looking at Gini, Thiago, and Jones. Front three, pick whoever is fit. Hopefully Mane back soon. If choice is shaqiri or Origi, I’ll pick Shaq.
I think it will take longer for the new CBs to be integrated (probably at least a couple weeks until starts). However… with Fabinho coming back I wouldn’t be surprised if - as you said - this is Phillips last chance unless another injury happens.
I’ve got a feeling the boss will want Hendo in midfield for this, and then return him to CB for the Citeh match. So maybe something like
Trent Phillips Davies Robbo
Hendo
Thiago Gini
Mo Firmino Mane
Then for city
Trent Fabinho Hendo Robbo
Gini
Thiago Milner
Mo Firmino Mane
But if a risk with Davies, but he shouldn’t be intimidated playing Brighton coming hot from the Championship. And CB is a relatively easier to slot into a team.
With Minamino out on loan and Mane still a fitness doubt we might start as we did at WH. Diamond MF with Mo and Origi up top but preferably Mo and Firminho. A rest for Millie.so MF of Thiago, Gini,Shaqu and Curtis Jones. Same back 4 for now.
I think if we are a couple of goals up he might get a runout. I’m delighted to see these lads here but I hope that fans cut them a little slack. They need to learn our system and learn about their new teammates and that will take time. It will be easier once Fabinho is fit again.
I think Phillips keeps his place at the back until Klopp’s seen enough of the new boys in training to know they’re the better option.
I think we’ve done a nice bit of business to start the evolution of the central defence to one which is the right level, but more reliable in terms of availability.
I still expect Hendo and Fabinho, when fit, to play back there a lot, but it’ll be interesting to see how the pecking order of the specialist centre backs plays out, and which slots in the central defensive squad (2-4) they might occupy next season.
