Man City XI: Ederson, Joao Cancelo, Stones, Dias, Zinchenko, Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Gundogan, Mahrez, Sterling, Foden.

Klopp moans about no centre backs now has 3 fit ones but doesn’t pick any. If result goes against us today press will jump all over it.

Giving either Davies or Kabak their first game against City when they’re in this form would be a daft decision

Starting Jones today shows Klopp trusts him against the best… Makes his omission v’s Brighton even stranger.

Our strongest line up, lets fucking have them.

So City have no strikers, Liverpool no central defenders… Battle of the midfielders begins!

A bit disappointed Kabak not playing. I think we’ll struggle at set pieces with no height at the back also. Missed opportunity to return Henderson to the midfield.

Maybe true but he still hasn’t picked any fit centre backs. It’s this that will be questioned after it’s been major gripe recently

Good to see Mane and Fabinho back. Like to see Hendo and Fabinho in their natural positions but
hopefully in a week or two. Too early for our new signings to start against city.

Not sure what the clamour for Kabak starting is? A few mistakes against the best team in the league could be utterly punished and hard to come back from that. Also he’s had 2 training sessions, it took Robbo/Fabinho etc. months to learn our shape, our triggers, all our tactical elements… Huge risk imo.

City are not a huge aerial threat, which is what Kabak brings. Henderson helps us play it out from the back and Fabinho is an excellent 1 v 1 defender. Both what we need today.

It’s the right call.

I think we know it’s a bit more complicated than that, and real life isn’t like a game of FIFA. I’d have loved to see Kabak today, but realistically he isn’t going to start against City after a couple of training sessions.

Where is Kelleher ? Adrian on the bench instead

A win takes us third. Come on Reds !

Was wondering that myself. Also not having Davies at least on the bench seems odd. I realise that players need to be introduced gradually but actually being available would be a start.

Caoimhin must have a knock or do the 23s have a important game today they rather have him for? Is Davies not on the bench? Strange

I reckon he’s not physically there yet, big jump from Preston. Kabak got the nod. I expect Kabak to be introduced over the next few games, then Davies on the bench etc.

Anyone who uses that as a stick to beat Klopp with is just marking themselves out as someone worth ignoring

Can understand the team selection, but am a bit concerned about the midfield. If Gini has another off day and Jones goes missing we could get overrun there, and even a solid defence won’t keep them at bay.

I appreciate we have few genuine alternatives up front, but for Bobby to keep getting picked week in week out regardless of his performance does rankle with me a bit.

It’s a bit of a safe team selection really, when really we could maybe have been bolder. Maybe a diamond midfield with Hendo dropping between centre backs to release the full backs.

Anyway let’s just hope we get something out of this, and then we can use the new defenders in coming matches to free up Fab and/or Hendo to go back into midfield.

Up the reds.

Jesus!!!

I’ve said before I think Jones will be a very good player for us.

At the moment though he shouldn’t be starting and he defo shouldn’t be starting against Man City.
